I like the Vibert Road boat launch ramp in South Windsor. You can motor across the Connecticut River and up the Farmington River. I found schoolie stripers in the Connecticut and small northern pike in the channel up to the Farmington the other day.

The schoolies I got in the main channel of the Connecticut. The pike I got at the south end of the channel between the west bank of the Connecticut and the west shore of the island in front of mouth of the Farmington.

I know what you mean about the depth of the water. I've been there when the main channel of the Connecticut was too shallow even for my kayak. The other day, however, the water was deep enough for a large boat everywhere I paddled, except for the channel around the north end of the island.

I tried to go fishing in Keeney Cove yesterday morning, but senility is setting in, and I forgot to bring the drive fins and paddle for my Hobie. That's why I was standing on Point Road when the high tide hit the culvert at 9:40 am. I fished for an hour from the road, but didn't get anything. I ended up running errands for the rest of the day. My driver's license expired, yesterday, so I got a new one. If you have to renew your driver's license, go to your local AAA office; it took me all of 10 minutes to get mine. Very Happy I also finally swapped out the snow tires and wheels on my Jeep for summer tires and a new set of wheels (aka dubs to you youngsters on here Laughing ). Now, she's all set to tackle the crappy roads on and around Manhattan. Confused

Good luck to those of you who get to fish this weekend. Very Happy

Manhattan? Am I missing something from this post Phil? Funny you forgot some gear, did the same thing last weekend, got to the lake, loaded up the yak, went to push myself out with the paddles, NO DAMN PADDLES!! Get back out of the yak, get back in the car, drive back to the house, get the paddles. Senile = priceless.

Hey Phil,

How many parking spots are at Vibert Rd? I'm trying to find a spot to launch my trailered boat tomorrow but the only spot on the CT site I saw was the Bissell Bridge. Trying to find a decent spot to launch in the river tomorrow since its gonna be a decent day. Thanks.

The parking lot probably would hold at least a dozen cars, although it's never been crowded when I've been there:
