Hit the Niantic area this morning with my regular partner for a shot at some winter flounder. The wind was blowing much more than expected and good drifts just were not happening so we decided to anchor up. Not a terrible decision since we landed these 2 keepers at 14" and 16"
We didn't fish long because of the wind but had a good time as always.
They were caught on sandworms with regular yellow beaded flounder hooks in about 10 fow. Looking forward to a very tasty meal! |

We were in a local tackle shop the other day near the shore and were asking about winter flounder in CT. The response to our "Where to try to catch them and what to use" was "You have a better chance of trying to catch a unicorn..."
Nice unicorns...! |

LOL. Thanks guys.
I really haven't targeted them until yesterday. We started picking them up in the Niantic area last season as bycatch while scup fishing for striper bait. Problem was it was a few days after the season closed so we made it a point to get out a little earlier this season and target them. I'm hoping to get out again next week and find a few more. |

i've caught winter flounder from the shore near Waterford all the way into the late summer. don't listen to jerks with big boats and little patience. |
