My evening freed up at the last minute and I grabbed the opportunity to head down to the water. Sandworms and friend in tow, we hit the banks around 7.
The wind was pretty stiff and breezy from the northwest, but the water wasn't breaking or moving too bad. The tide seemed to be just about peak high tide so we started by casting up river.
Hit a single schoolie between the two of us and the sun went down. Nibbles, bites, etc. were non existent so we decided to head a little down river to another reliable spot.
Few more schoolies came in on worms when this bad boy hit. First keeper of 2012! I was expecting it to be a catfish or a carp (every other time this year I have hoped for a striper it has been...) but a few runs took some line off my drag on my Battle 4000, so I was slowly becoming a believer as the fight wore on! Measured and weighed it came in a 32", 10lbs.... nice lean male, or so I think...
Needless to say, my time on the water this year so far (and it has been a lot) has finally paid dividends...
EDIT: Resized the picture a little better! |

Congratulations on the keeper! I'm jealous. I have yet to catch one, although I got a couple of schoolies, today. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

We are going to head out this weekend and a few days next week. If you want to ditch the kayak, you are more than welcome to join us. You might have to dedicate one rod to bait though
I turned a couple of my friends onto this forum and they are duly impressed with your fishing reports. I'm sure they would like to meet a legend of the paddle. |

Nice keeper there.
I went to the other side of O Sullivans in Shelton for a little while and Derby Dam as the Herring are in but not full scale. Saw 1 guy take home a 32" but no one else hit anything. I threw poppers, a few other lugs, a few minnows, a black and red sluggo, and fake eels, and a bucktail. I also soaked a few sandworms. Not a freakin nibble. _________________ There's a fine line between fishing....

I launched my hobie at o Sullivan's under the rte 8 bridge tossed sluggos and shad imitations and got nothing.. Marked tons of fish at the drop off under the rte 8 bridge. Went to the derby dam.. 17 people fishing, didn't see any catching. |

The last couple nights I have seen bait along the shoreline breaking water with much larger fish jumping further out. This is the first time this year the rover has looked this "on". I think we are in for a good next couple of weeks. |
