Well after all this great weather I decided to go out today. Of course a day when I actually have time the weather does not cooperate.

I went up to Pierrepont Lake. I liked the fact that is was smaller as I wasn't sure how long I would stay out with the cooler weather. I definitley did not dress right.

I paddled around a bit just trying to get the lay of the land, er water, as I never have fished here before. It seemed pretty shallow. So I paddled out toi what seemed like deeper water. I started casting around and found some bass that still seemed set up pretty deep, or at least as deep as the lake provided. Caught 8 bass in about 2 hours drop shotting. Istarted using watermelon or pumpkin colored senkos, not sure which color, but one of the two. After a couple bites the worm fell off. So I decided to downsize the bait, so I put on some Berkley Fry little worm that I have just for using the Slow Death technique. They really went after that. I stayed on them for a while, before deciding to move on and explore other areas of the lake.

At that point the wind really kicked up and it was just under 45 degrees. Both the dog and I were cold and so we packed it in.

All in all 8 bass, all about one pound in two hours. Nothing big by any stretch but a nice early start to my 2012 fishing season.

Thanks! It felt great however cold to be catching anything.

The only two places I have fished up that way is Mamanasco and now today Pierrepont. The biggest I have gotten out of Mamanasco was a 20 incher, but was pretty thick. Unless Squantz counts.

I am out of Norwalk.

20 inches isnt bad at all especially out of there my biggest out of mamanasco was probably about the same give or take an inch or two.

We usually go there for numbers

Last year 5 of us went out on rafts and worked the bass pretty good.

Any good ponds / lakes up your way?

Around here if I fish I hit the Sagatuck Reservoir. I wish they let us kayak in it. Other than that I will occasionally hit Bantam, still trying for my first pike, and Squantz for smallies and my first walleye.

As for Mamanasco I usually go there for numbers as well. I'm actually kind of bummed that 20 inches is big for there. I was hoiping there would be at least a couple big ones, but everyone seems to say the same thing about that place.

There must be big ones in Mamanasco. My "go to" pond for big numbers is Lake Basile in Simsbury. I've caught four dozen largemouth bass in there on one trip. Two weird things about it are that the biggest I've caught have been a couple of two pound, five ouncers and I almost never catch anything else but largemouth bass. However, one day last year, mep 21 (aka Mark) boated a five pound, nine ouncer with a Zoom Horny Toad dragged over the weeds. When he told me that he had hooked a big one, I didn't believe him until he pulled it out of the weeds. Shocked

I can assure you there a BIG ones in Mamanasco. I am renting a house with a dock on the lake and fish it every chance I get. As some of you remember, before the end of last season I nailed some hogs out of there. Def in the 3-5 LB range. All of them within a month and late in the season (October - Novemeber).

Never had any luck in Pierpont, but that is all shore fishing since I havent gotten a kayak yet.

So far this season (4 nights of fishing with this warm weather) Ive only nailed large, large bluegills and quite sizeable Perch. No LMB yet.

Jomonkey, if you ever feel like doing some shore fishing or anything, let me know. Always looking to fish with someone.

Thanks for the report. Have to try out Pierpont soon.

I'd love to get out and fish with members here. My schedule is tough workijg for myself, and coaching my daughter's soccer team. I always keep an eye on the Fishing Partners section just in case it works out.
