|
|
After a year of fishing in CT im realizing the best fishing is hard to get off the shores. I think it may be time to consider a kayak. Not looking to spend too much since Ive never had a kayak before. Need something reliable that I can throw on the top of my car and is easy enough to carry so I can get it into spots. Any suggestions on the affordable range?
Also, do you have to pay registration on Kayaks?
Thanks,
Les |

You only need to regester a watecraft if it is motorized (either electric or gas).
According to what you are looking for, registration wouldnt be needed. |

I have the future beach trophy 126 like many people do on here. Don't get me wrong I am no expert on kayaks but for the price it gets the job done, and is made for fishing i.e has rod holders, comfy seat IMO, ample storage room. I got it at dicks sporting good for $250 and I am almost positive they still sell them. Just my $.02

You got yours for $250?!?! When/which Dick’s? I’ve been keeping an eye on the price (online) for months and it’s been holding steady at $369. It’s a good 30 min drive to check prices in store… I guess I could start calling the stores and checking prices that way… hmm _________________ PB's:

Yeah last summer when I bought mine it was $250 plus I got an extra 10% off as I opened up a Dicks credit card, so I made out pretty good |

Go on craigslist while it's some what cold and type in kayak... I bought mine for $120 years ago and it's a 8 foot sit in with a paddle. I'm six feet tall and i'm comfortable and custom rigged the thing to my liking with rod holders and some bungee's...
You gotta weight the pro's and con's to a larger kayak. I literally can put my kayak on my shoulder and walk a mile if I have to because it's so light. Which enables me to fish anywhere.
I'd go on craigslist and save some money. |

For the money, the Future Beach Trophy 126 from Dick's Sporting Goods is the best fishing kayak that you can buy new. They often go on sale for $299.95 and you can also always find coupons for 10 percent off. Those Entertainment coupon books all include a $20 off a $100 purchase coupon. Just keep an eye out for the sales. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

I've been thinking about getting a little watercraft for hitting spots on lakes, ponds, and smaller rivers.
I'm torn between getting a cheaper Kayak, or a smaller fiberglass or aluminum boat to slap a trolling motor on. I've been browsing craigslist for them because i really don't want to break the bank on it.
Any suggestions on which to go with? _________________ A bad day of fishing is better then a good day at work |

Thanks for the heads up! I'm between a kayak or finding a deal on a basshunter or small aluminum/fiberglass boat online.
Registration for a boat usually isnt bad at all either, very cheap. _________________ A bad day of fishing is better then a good day at work |

To be honest every single person I know that has a small bass boat like a pelican or a small aluminum hardly ever uses the thing.
I personally find the kayak way more convienant. Colburn who is a member here as well and I can use his 12 foot aluminum any day of the week and we haven't touched the thing in over a year.
Just throwing my opinion out there. And you can still hook up a trolling motor to your Yak!!! |
