I pass over this bridge every day and sometimes I see boats fishing north of the bridge and traveling upstream towards the dam. I was just wondering what species anyone has caught in the river at those areas?

Its funny, there are times the water is so low it looks like you can walk across the river in certain areas near the bridges. Never thought the stripers would be there.

I might have to give the area a closer look and see what kind of access there is for dropping in a small aluminum jon boat. Never paid much attention to it until I saw guys drifting and casting near the bridge last year.

I believe there are some rocky areas closer to the dam. Anyone pull any smallmouth out of there?

I see people dropping small boats in behind sunnyside school. I wish I had a boat cuz I see people catch a lot of stripers over there.

Do you mean the Route 8 bridge? There's a boat launch ramp on the Housatonic River almost underneath it to the south. Take Caroline Street to the Derby Greenway. The parking lot for the ramp is underneath Route 8.

PECo I was referring to the Rt 34 bridge that pretty much runs parallel to the RT8 bridge. It's all in the same general area though. I am going to take a look at the launch on my way home today and take a ride to the dam to see what shore access is available there.

There are plenty spots on that river walk to hit up. I have had good luck some days there.

There is also another boat ramp right under the r8 bridge - take exit 15 off rt 8, then take caroline st. Not a bad ramp, and go down river to the fish.
