So I got a neat tool in the mail today to help me take better pictures when fishing so I rushed to the pond when I got home. Rushed a bit too fast though... Forgot my tool my camera and my drink Embarassed Fished anyways... I worked a bullfrog colored 5" stick bait on a weighted wacky hook through the weed edge and landed 3 keepers doing that. Two were 13" 1 was 15" all weighed in under 2 lbs Shocked
Once the sun went down I tried a frog with no success. Once the lightning hit, I hit the road. So 3 bass in 5' of water in heavy weeds in 1.5 hours.

Nothing wrong with 3 in 1.5 hours dude, pretty good catch and release rate. Where's Hamlin?

My rules of thumb for guesstimating the weight of a Connecticut largemouth bass from its length are:

14 inches = 1 pound
16 inches = 2 pounds
18 inches = 3 pounds
20 inches = 4 pounds
22 inches = 5 pounds
24 inches = 6 pounds

Of course, the girls are always heavier than the boys and, of course, an egg-laden pre-spawn cow will weigh more, but in my experience these rules hit the middle of the bell curve. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to test the "24 inches = 6 pounds" rule yet! Rolling Eyes

When you test it it's gonna be 24 inches = 8 pounds Very Happy

I caught a chunky 18 incher today that I guesstimated to be three pounds, four ounces. My Berkley digital scale said that it was three pounds, five ounces. That fish had some teeth on it!

Thanks for the weight tips PECo!

Hila, Hamlin is a puddle in Plainville. If you're ever on Rt 72 you drive right past it (opposite the movie theatre sign across the highway) There are a lot of Dinks in there and usually a few decent bass as well. I love ice fishing there and take my yak there when pressed for time as it's less than 5 minutes from my house. Through the ice I usually get some big pickerel too but havent seen a single pickerel there all spring/summer.

Talk about reviving an old thread...aye caramba.. I was just googling this pond, I work in Bristol and go past this 5 days a week on rt 72. I was told by my employees that it was a private pond. I'll definitely try it once fishing season starts up again. That and old marsh pond on the other end of Bristol looks interesting.

I found a document online with all the rules and regs for Plainville town Parks and Hamlin and Padrewski are both listed. Open 6AM til 10PM most of the year (slightly less open hours this time of year I beleive) and no combustible engines. Boats have to be <16' also I believe.
