I drove out to Nod Brook WMA with El Habañero, today. I parked between the upper (aka south) and lower (aka north) ponds. The upper pond was more than 90 percent skimmed over with ice:

However, the lower pond was more than 90 percent open:

I decided to paddle the lower pond. The sky was overcast and there was a fairly steady north wind. While I was on the water from 10;30 am to 12:00 pm, the wind swung around from the west. Although the air temperature was in the low 40s, it felt cccold! I had wanted to force myself to fish with only a jerkbait, so I brought only one setup that was spooled with 15 pound test P-Line Fluoroclear and baited with a silver Rapala Husky Jerk H08S. It's always hard to fish a jerkbait from a sit-inside kayak, but when you're cold and it's windy, it's really hard. My casts weren't long and my pauses were short, and I didn't get even a nibble. But I'm really looking forward to our next sunny, windless day. Very Happy

You should try spooling your jerk bait reel with 8lb test mono, it will cast much better. The reason i say to use mono is because it has a lot more stretch than floro and the stretch in the line helps put less erratic action on the jerk bait which is a plus in real cold water. I got out today for a bit but didn't get anything either. Just need the water to warm up another 5-10 degrees and the bite should be on!
