I am thinking about buying the aquarion permit for saugatuck, farmill, and west pequonnock. If anyone has ever been to the saugatuck reservoir, Is it worth the 25 bucks? What species have you cought? What lures do you prefer there? I appreciate the help

Frank-

I fish the Saugatuck a lot. The Valley Forge side is deeper and rocky so you have a good concentration of SMB there along with walleys. The Rte 53 side has more weeds and is shallower so it's better for LMB. You just have to walk the banks and find a spot to fish. Just park in one of the many parking areas along the side of the road and follow the paths to the shore. I'm not a trout fisherman, but I hear it's good for them as well. The state record brown trout was caught their last year. I've also caught a lot of rock bass and pickeral. It's a beautiful place and a great fishery. I usually bring a couple rods rigged with a senko, spinnerbait, and lipless crank. Lot's of quality fish in there, you just need to put in your time and knowledge.

Interesting, I've heard a lot of good things about the trout fishing there and have heard that there are mostly smallmouth with some largemouth. Do you think the bass will be biting in april and may?

Most years mid April to early May are where the spawn sets in, so you have a great shot at landing a pig or two. Just be prepared for a slower bite if they are nested up though. The rate this winter is going, the spawn may very well end up happening in March, haha.

I personally like using 4 to 6 inch rubber worms but have never really done any smallmouth fishing. will the smallies hit rubber worms, and is it worth going for bass when there are seemingly so many big trout in the saugatuck? thanks
