Well today I went Herring fishing around four and saw two people I know there. Nobody was catching any herring today. I heard yesterday the herring were there. Someone I know said they came out to fish last night and saw schoolie stripers popping up on the surface, just like they've been for months. Today when I was herring fishing, we saw a big splash in the water, too big to be herring. It was probably a Striper or some shad. Speaking of Shad, someone I know got a 20 inch hickory Shad the other day off a 2 inch Fin-s. |

Today herring fishing was a blast! I caught about 10. Me and a few other guys were getting hits on nearly every cast. We were fishing in a channel with a strong current, so all we had to do was cast, let our rig sink and jig. The current did most of the work for us. Someone actually caught a little striper off a sabiki rig! I froze the herring up and will use them for bait in the spring. |

Caught another dozen herring today. It's really fun to catch these. Most of today's batch I will pickle. I have fillets from them I cut up into cubes sitting in a salt brine in my fridge to get all the impurities out before I pickle them and everything. The rest I froze for bait. Most of the Herring have been decent sized, most about a foot long.

Yeah i landed some on a sabiki back in Dec. and it was my first time catching those. It was at night time and I also landed a squid and had something huge on the line that broke off. Tons of fun and killed some time relaxing. |

I was using a sabiki rig. I think i just lucked out with it in the area really. I will use some actual squid jigs if i want to catch some. They are good eating and good bait too. West coast is really big with that stuff and have some good online stores to check out that are dedicated to squid fishing. |
