I never catch anything in the "actual river". Always in the coves. Been trying the Marina's now but I am not having any luck. |

Hey, Fish Pimp! I think that the key to catching largemouth and smallmouth bass in the main channel of the river is flow. You have to find spots where the fish can hold out of the current as it flows by. The far side of the channel from the Haddam Meadows boat launch ramp is a good spot. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

PECO. Will give it a shot. I guess maybe just to keep working the edges as it seems to be very low in current?
The guys down at point road still talk about your 6 pounder. I fish up there almost every weekend. Yet to catch one like that though. Mine always seem to be in the 2 pound range. |

I caught that one in the flooded trees about as far north and west of Point Road as you can go in the upper part of the cove. You need a boat that can get through the culvert under Route 3 to get there.
DirtyDawg10 (aka Derek) says that wacky rigged five inch Senkos are the key to catching largemouth bass from Point Road. I've seen several in the two to three pound range from there and Derek has caught a bunch. I got one by dropping a wacky Senko next to the culvert underneath the road, right where I imagined that a bass would wait and watch for food to flow by. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

I go up there in my Yak all the time. Had a lot of luck on a chartruesse spinner bait and now I can't land anything on it. If I could figure out how to post I would share. lol. Always love the senko, brush hog, and salamander up in that area. I switched over to Pike now and hopefully will boat one soon. Lost 2 because I failed to use proper leader. I got lazy! |

Now that the water is getting colder, you might have to slow down your presentation and/or use smaller lures. I had a blast with spinnerbaits for a while, but would probably lean more on slowly fished wacky Senkos right now. I put my boats away for the season, but just got a roof rack for my new Jeep and might pull one back down from the ceiling of my garage. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |
