Went to Rainbow yesterday with the intention of going for some smalies. The lake was drawn down pretty low and there was a sign of caution there. Believe it or not it wasnt that bad launching compared to Wethersfield Cove. Water temp was 61 degrees and there was a light breeze. Started out on the other side of the lake (I believe the south side of the lake). I lost a handful of fish, in fact one ripped my senko in half. Tried wacky, texas rigged, spinners, and tubes. We found a good spot with a HUGE dropoff. My fish finder was going nuts as you can see...
Landed a few LMB and one SMB.
Unfortunately no keepers. I lost one when I had my line texas rigged with a split shot bullet weight on. I actually have never really rigged my line like this but there was so much action at one point when the sun was going down. There was a bunch of drop offs and deep pockets. _________________ Steve |

You've got to turn off the fish symbols on your depthfinder. You will get much more acurate readings. Honestly 75% of what shows as fish are not fish anyway. Just some freindly advice. _________________ Go big or go home! |

Thanks lol. I also need to adjust the sensitivity on it. I kinda figured at some points it wasnt accurate. _________________ Steve |

i have a 19' and ahve no issues there. Place is plenty big enough and deep enough. I havent been there in awhile and am not sure how low it is but if its real low launching a 19'+ bass boat can be tough but usually its like any other lake with a good launch.
as for the report...........nice. that place can be stingy or outstanding. If you hit it right you can have a great day. there are some healthy smallies in there no dought. was the water mucked up? |

My boat is a 18" Bass Tracker Pro and I had no problem launching at all. There's guys that put bigger boats in there during the summer. I've been to Rainbow several times this year and it can be great when no one is water skiing. Once you get farther south it can be more shallow and you have to be careful. Also there are some unmarked spots with trees and sticks.
The water seemed super clean actually. Not murky at all. _________________ Steve |

You can fish that entire place in a nice sized boat. Phil (PECo) joined me one day in my 18.5 Ranger on a day where we made it up river to the point that we were 100 yards away from the highway bridge. My boat is a Reata with a deep v. I could have made it in a true bass boat. I also second the post suggesting you turn the fish icon thing off on the finder. It's wrong 90% of the time. Another good tip for that place is simply that if they are drawing water, it's much better. I've caught decent fish there both ways, but it takes more work when the water is still. |

Thanks for the info, one more dumb question. Where is Rainbow? Should've asked that first. I was thinking res. so no motors. Cool. |

Thanks Phish.
Hila - Rainbow is in Windsor. Generally the reservoir runs into the Farmington River. It's not too far from the airport. When I use my GPS in my car I just plug in Merriman Rd. _________________ Steve |
