lots of peanut bunker in my area. Watched someone catch a nice 6 pounder off the beach using a popper yesterday. Today I had two hits on a popper on the same retrieve. The old fool at my local bait shop spooled my reel incorrectly so when I casted once I got into a huge tangle. I heard this wasn't the first time when he spooled people's lines and this happened.

I dont ever have them do my line. I always do my own as those machines dont ever do a good job. I stick the line between the pages of a book to give me decent restriction. I forgot to mention there was a huge school of peanut bunker right at the pier where we were as they were probably attracted to the 3 gas lamps one of the guys had on our pier. Should be going again on Tuesday so hopefully the blues keep staying around a little longer.

I got skunked off Penfield Reef but admittedly I didn't get to fish much because when I went to reposition my boat after the anchor came up the first time my mid dock line somehow got into my port prop. I stripped down and freaking spent 45 minutes in the water diving under the boat trying to cut it free and got myself a concussion I think within the first 30 seconds of being under there cause the boat crashed down on me from the wave sets. I got it loosened up and regained use of that engine, but it's still on there.

After I thawed out I tried fishing for a little more but I was so wound up about the prop and fighting the effects of the concussion I headed back. Coming through the very tip of the channel at the edge of the breakwater for the housitonic I saw someone catch a small striper on what looked like a sort of rappala lure.

Went back to my marina and started feeling a little better so figured I didn't want to go home without having caught something so I tossed my squid into the river. Pulled out what's pictured below. Something kept messing with me the rest of my time there but I simply couldn't hook it.

I've been doing real good on blackfish up to 22 inches from my kayak this week. Porgies have left, but the blackfish bite is peaking in my shallow water Miford spot.

Okay, went to Gulf beach tonight with my son and did lousy. My son caught a fish that sort of looked like a snapper in the head but more like a Seawolf body. Anyone have a clue as o what this is? I did snap a pic but its on my phone card and that always busts my chops and Im nit playing with it tonight. I myself caught a freakin snapper and a big chunk but it nibbled quite a bit of it first before taking the rest. Bummer, at least he caught a fish but being that his was his first time salt water fishing with me I was really hoping he'd catch at least a small blue. That thing he caught was only like 8" and he really didnt know he even had it on there until he had it out of the water. He is 7 years old.

Found out it was a Tommy Cod. Never heard of or seen one before myself.

I'm going to fish tomorrow's late part of the outgoing with lures. Heard it's supposed to be a chilly one.

When I was fishing off a pier today, two people were catching some schoolies. One using a kastmaster, the other a zoom fluke. I had some hits off a deadly dick, but no hook ups.The stripers along with the small blues have been bursting up on peanuts for the past week. It really sucks they're not 10 lb blues and bass chasing adult bunker. I hope this snow/rain thing doesn't hurt the fishing.
