If you like using soft plastics, but can't keep free of weeds, try carolina rigging. just make sure bait floats and you use a light wire hook. That will keep your sinker on the bottom so you can fish slow, but your bait will be floating just above the weeds.

So took some of everyones advice. Went out last night and threw a lot of different stuff to get a feel for it all. Wanted to get back to basics a bit so I threw out a medium size spinner. Was retrieving pretty fast to keep it out of the rough and then started adding small rips every 3 reels. Been casting parallel to the shore a lot but have been snagging a lot on fallen leaves and brush. So i decided to cast straight out into about 6-8ft of water and keep it maybe about 3ft down to hti the suspending bass. Never had luck with fast retrieval baits straight out from the shore, but thought it was time to try.

This thing hit maybe 10-15 ft out and just kept swimming hard parallel to the shore, so i didnt feel its strength until i pulled it up. It was dark as hell out so I finally put the light on it and almost pissed myself. So glad I got a pic of it. Thought I had it out too long, but shortly after I put it in the water it swam under the dock and seemed ok. Always feel bad about taking pics since I have to keep em out of the water for a bit, but with the size of this thing it seemed fine.

On a side not, went to check the lure afterwards and it was bent pretty good. Thanks all for the advice to land this thing.

Also, just to ask again, anyone fishin South Connecticut this weekend or anything within 1.5hrs of Stamford? Def looking to try and get out to some new water this weekend and would be nice to actually be able to fish with anyone (from the shore would be solid, honestly, not trying to look for free boat rides, haha. A bit timid to even ask to fish with people since I know most probably think Im just trying to get out on their boats.) May sound like an odd request but fishing by myself for the past year has gotten a bit tiresome and just trying to learn some new techniques.

Nice Les! How big was she? Looks pretty big.

I wanted to write back to you about switching spots. I didn't necessarily mean lakes, just try like you are doing here, cast to different spots, move a few yards down shore or as far as you can and try out diffrent spots on the lake. maybe get a pair of waders and stomp the shoreline. I try not to shore fish too much because how much it limits me but when I do I throw on the waders so I can get in the water.

BTW, Looks like you did a fine job with the spinnerbait! Very Happy

Hey Les, nice one!! I agree with Tim as well. It's not so much going to a different lake, as it's just trying to move around in the spot you're at. Another words trying to use different angles can make all the difference. If you're near Danbury, I'd suggest hitting Lake Zoar or Lilly, there's a good chunk of shore fishing room at the State Park at Zoar. Decent bass fishing from what I hear, you can cover a good distance there. Good luck Les. Keep at it.

Thanks all for the words.

The different spots/ approaches are working, at least angles from the dock. I need to get some waders for sure. I do also want to try some new lakes though. Zoar might be an option this weekend but still waiting to see what everyone is fishing this weekend in hopes that I could fish some similar waters.

Im thinking it was over 5lbs but I dont really know since I dont have a scale. Any guesses on your guys' part?

Even without a scale, if you measure length and girth you can guesstimate the weight pretty accurately. The image size is pretty small on the website so it is hard for me to judge. Looks like a nice healthy fish though. Definitely more than a couple pounds.

Sorry couldnt tell due to the light hitting it, looks like there is a red stripe down the side of it, nice lookin fish though

This is a better pic of the same fish. It wasn't huge but it was one of the most fun fish I have ever caught. Hit a frog in the pads and then went absolutely nuts. One of those days I was glad I had braid on because he took me through the thick stuff.

Thats a solid lookin fish. Have yet to catch anything on lillies. Lookin forward to that next yr for sure.

Les, try Sanford's Pond in Danbury. You need to walk down some train tracks to access it but it's a great little place to fish from shore.

Nice bass, are you fishing at night? if so, try topwaters, plugs, spooks, buzzbaits, No better way to catch bass in my opinion!!! i love the surface hits!
