Figured I'd do a quick report on a few of my lunch/after work trips from this week.
First I headed over to Keeney Cove after work on Tuesday 10/11. I fished for a couple of hours and ended up with 9 largemouth. 5 were keepers and 4 were shorts. The biggest was only 14". All came on a wacky senko from the road. I tried throwing a jig and a crankbait as well but nothing was working for me but the wacky rig.
I decided to take another trip to Keeney at lunch today 10/14 and started off throwing the senko. The first fish was this 14" 1lb 8oz LMB.
I tried the crankbait again for a bit because people were pulling in some nice sized crappie but got nothing on it. I ended up with another short LMB and a tiny rockbass on the senko. It was the first rockbass I have seen at Keeney. I got snagged up on a log and ended up snapping the tip off of my senko rod. I cut it down a few inches to the next guide so my senko rod is 4 or 5 inches shorter now
I didn't get enough fishing in at lunch so I left work an hour early and headed to Lake Basile, It was a quick trip so I fished from shore. Got a few bites from some small fish and ended up with a 14" 1lb 7oz LMB on a wacky senko. That was the only fish I pulled out of there and then it was time to head home. Here's the one from Basile.

Nice job DD, nothing like lunch time trips for sure to break up the day. Where is Basile? Is there a boat launch? |

Basile is on the Granby/Simsbury line. There is no area to launch a full size boat. You could carry in a car topper but it is a bit of a hike. Not too bad though. I've been on it a few times with a yak. I don't think motors are allowed either. It is a small pond even though it's called a lake |

Thanks DD, another decent canoe spot anyways. Is there any shore access? ALways looking for places to go throw a line in for short periods of time, in I don't think it's far from Wolcott. |

It is a pretty long ride from Wolcott. I'd say close to an hour. In the early spring and the fall there is some shore access on the SW side but not to the whole lake. In the summer there is virtually no shore access due to the weeds in the water and the high weeds along the shoreline. Most of the shoreline is privately owned. |
