Fishface (aka Tim) and I paddled and fished Moodus Reservoir from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. My Saab was the only car parked in the lot at the boat launch ramp on the north end of the upper reservoir all day. The air was cool, there weren't any clouds in the sky and we had very little wind. I paddled El Habañero and Tim paddled La Tortuga. The water level is still a couple of feet low, because they're still working on the spillway dam next to Falls Bashan Road. The water was stained and murky. Smurky? Rolling Eyes I could see down only about a foot in most places. I started throwing a black buzzbait over the lily pads in the cove near the ramp. Tim threw a soft plastic frog. There was very little activity over the pads. He got one hit, but missed the hookset, and I got a 15 inch chain pickerel that I think I hit on the head with the buzzbait:

We headed along the shore toward the spillway dam. Along the way, a wacky rigged five inch Senko got me the first largemouth bass, which was just a short eight incher:

I got the Senko in the photo just for you, flippy! Wink At the dam, a wacky Senko got Tim the first keeper largemouth, which was a 14 incher:

We continued to throw the buzzbait and the frog over the shallows and pads, but didn't get any hits. Unfortunately, there was no topwater activity. None at all. All day. Crying or Very sad However, Tim got a 16 inch, one pound, 14 ounce largemouth with his wacky Senko next to a random lily pad about 30 feet off of the shore:

We each tied on a small spinnerbait. Tim had a white one with Colorado blades and I had a two-tone brown mustard/chartreuse one with Colorado blades. We paddled toward the culvert that connects the upper reservoir with the lower reservoir, thinking that the surface water might be warmer down there. However, we stopped to fish the concrete seawall in the middle of the northeast shore. Along the big bed of pads next to the seawall, my spinnerbait got me a 12 inch keeper largemouth:

I also had a bite from what was either a small chain pickerel or a small northern pike. It spit the hook next to El Habañero, but I'd swear that it was a northern. There aren't any northerns in Moodus Reservoir, are there? Confused Tim lost a largemouth off of his spinnerbait near the seawall, but boated a chain pickerel. I saw some schools of minnows splashing in the middle of the reservoir, so I paddled out and threw my spinnerbait through them. I got only a short largemouth bass. Tim decided to head straight down to the culvert, but I paddled along the shoreline, throwing my spinnerbait everywhere. I got several hits from largemouth and pickerel, but failed to boat anything. When I got to the culvert, Tim told me that he had struck out completely along the East Haddam Colchester Turnpike, which runs over the culvert. Since the water level is so low, I decided to paddle underneath the culvert to the lower reservoir. Tim reluctantly followed me. I think that he's arachnophobic. Wink He swapped out his white spinnerbait for a black one with willow blades and got a short largemouth on the first cast with it. A little while later, I also got a short largemouth with my spinnerbait. As we headed toward the farm on the northeast shore, the weed cover got slimier and covered with that dark green weed that looks like clumps of matted hair. We wondered whether runoff from the farm caused it. Whatever the cause, there weren't any fish to be found over there. It was getting close to the time that we had to head back, so I paddled across to the island. Tim tied on a silver Rapala Shallow Shad Rap SSR5 and boated a pickerel on the way over. He ended up breaking the bill on his silver SSR5 and swapped it out for a green one. I didn't get any hits at all with my spinnerbait or wacky Senko before I tied on a silver SSR7 and a silver Rapala Original Floater F09 and we began trolling our way back to the ramp. We limboed underneath the spider-infested culvert and headed up the southwest side of the middle of the reservoir. Along the way, my SSR7 got me another pickerel and both of us collected weeds from the shallow bottom. We didn't boat another fish before we got off of the water, but enjoyed a really pleasant day.

Next time I'm free and you guys go out I want to come. I had a great time the other day. Shame I couldn't stay later. Still need to flesh out my supplies as I'm a novice, but still appreciated the advice from both of you. .

Hey, Jim, my repertoire is getting bigger! Razz I had more fun throwing a spinnerbait than anything else yesterday. I really wish that I had fished the deeper section of the reservoir. It's just hard to fish vertically when you're sitting with your a$$ below the waterline. . . .
