I did Ok at Gulf Beach Tuesday night. I caught an 11.5 lb Blue which was 35" plus 2 smaller blues, a Fluke about 18" but out of season and a Sea Robin. I didnt even think Fluke were still around, I know I havent caught any in well over a month now. _________________ There's a fine line between fishing....

Has anyone been catching in the fairfield/bpt area? Because I know I haven't. I saw one tiny pod of bunker breaking water, but in the distance from where I was. |

My buddy was killing the Porgies at the ferry landing. Huge ones he said at that. _________________ There's a fine line between fishing....

Well yesterday I only caught a few sea robins, but today around 730 pm I caught one 2-3 pound bluefish off a mackerel chunk. |

Where exactly have you been fishing? How long do you usually fish for? I go twice a week, once during the week for about 5 hours after work and then I usually fish for about 12 hours or more on the weekends. Last Saturday I fished from 4 in the afternoon until 8 in the morning. I was doing good in West Haven until low tide came in and the place where I fish is too shallow during that so I move to Milford but that isnt as consistent for catching but at least its fishable. I stayed there for awhile then headed out to Stamford and totally bombed there. Got a few 10 -12lbs at West Haven and a few Sea Robins, 1 - 13 lber in Milford and something that peeled line off my reel like crazy and then let go. Im thinking maybe a false Albacore or shark or something. _________________ There's a fine line between fishing....

We boated 35 blacks yesterday between 3 guys, 8lb 7oz being our biggest, but the same guy lost 2 monsters to the rocks. The old man in the boat next to us landed a 10.2! Great day out in Clinton! |

I usually go fishing off a pier at the end of jennings beach, in Fairfield. I usually go about 3 or 4 times a week, depending on tides. I never really stay longer than 5 hours. And also, how are you catching these big blues? Are you fishing near structure, do you have a favorite tide? And how many mackerel are do you usually buy for your daily fishing? |

Maybe you need to try another spot!!! I buy about 6 mackerel for when I go fishing during the week. I also usually fish from a pier for blues. Tide doesnt really matter to me but Id say I have better luck on the incoming tide. _________________ There's a fine line between fishing....

I hit my favorite spot yesterday after work and caught 2 Blues over 30", 1 just under, a crap load of sea robins and right before I left a 27" striper that had jumped on y line who knows how long! I had a mack head on that line to try and keep the sea robins away and never saw that pole do anything but a striper took it and then went to shore. Went to reel it in and was like WTF!!!! _________________ There's a fine line between fishing....

I've never heard of a Striper off a mack head, only bunker heads. Did you use a steel leader when you caught that bass? I caught one Fluke and an 18 inch bluefish today, both off mackerel chunks. And I saw two IDIOTS using a cut up schoolie bass for bait |

Yeah I had a steel leader on as I was primarily fishing for blues. I switch over to flouro leader when targeting bass. As for your other comment on those two people I probably would have cut them up and used them for bait!!! Bass like Mackerel also. _________________ There's a fine line between fishing....

Went out Friday into Sat morn. Started at west Haven at around 7:15pm and within minutes landed a 34: bluefish that was only 6 lbs. That was 1 skinny bluefish!!! I landed about 3 more blues a little smaller, some fatter though and then another small schoolie striper just like Wednesday night before I left and went to Gulf beach. I fished the channel there from about 1 am until 4:35am with no fish, was getting a bunch of bites though but just couldnt get to landing any there!!! _________________ There's a fine line between fishing....
