PM trip up the Bantam River last night for some cool weather spinnerbait fishing. Started casting around 5:30 and in 2 hours time, were able to boat 5 pike, 4 pickerel and a LM to end out with 10 boated, and at least that many missed. Rogers white bait was the bread winner, but I got 3 smaller (24-26 in) pike and the fat pickerel. Great night up there for sure!

Thanks guys, and sorry, yeah, no motor boats . we go up there with out electric trolling motor. Even with that you need to be really careful, as there are some spots even those won't make it through on the way up. |

A 28 inch chain pickerel fights better than a 28 inch northern pike. It's like comparing a smallmouth bass to a largemouth bass. Pickerel and smallies never stop fighting. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

No question Phil! I actually thought I had a much larger Northern at first the way that pickerel was going to town on my gear!
....and for the sunset pics....sunrise is much more beautiful on the Bantam River!
Just that the side it sets on is less structurally pleasing for pictures. Both are rally nice to see out there. |

Lake Champlain has a lot of northern pike/chain pickerel hybrids that combine the size of a pike with the fight of a pickerel. They're beautiful looking fish, too:

Speaking of hybrids - has anybody ever caught a tiger musky (musky/pike hybrid)? It seems that they would be bigger than pike, but the MA state record pike is bigger than the record tiger musky. Haven't tried for them yet. Found out this weekend that I need a new on board charger for my boat.
That figures - right at the best time of the year for fishing! _________________ Go big or go home! |

Supposedly they stocked tiger muskie in Webster Lake at one point. If I end up getting a real boat next year I might buy my MA liscence and give it a try. _________________ PB's:

Tiger muskie have to be stocked in Connecticut and I've heard of only one private lake that has them. Although I did spot a mystery fish in the Simsbury section of the Farmington River that could have been some kind of a muskie. . . . _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |
