I can tell you for sure that the pike I catch at hopeville will not even sniff ANY lure you throw out there. Believe me, I've tried! As a matter of fact, there have been times when I have been catching them, then try a lure and the fish shut down for an hour or more before I catch another one with bait. These fish are very pressured, old and not stupid. That's what happens when a big fish has been around for 10 years. My early success was very limited simply because I was using wire leaders - even with bait. _________________ Go big or go home! |

flipper has said before that he uses 50 lb
i was appalled by the price of fluoro leader but i finally found some cheap enough that i was willing to try it out. at a wal mart on cape cod they obviously have a lot more fishing stuff than normal... and they had berkley vanish 50 lb leader for only like $11 (compared to $30-something at Dicks for other brands!) _________________ PB's:

Yeah, I use 50lb. Some guys say you can use 40lb or even 30lb for pike, but I'm not taking any chances. I think I have Seagar. It's expensive, but 25 yds has lasted all year for me, so it's a 1 time expense for every year, I guess. Well worth the $ in my book. _________________ Go big or go home! |

Hey, fishfinder! You know that the 2011 Connecticut Angler's Guide says that the State Record striped bass weighed only 50 pounds, 14 ounces, right? Were you in Connecticut waters or does the record go to the state from where your boat launched? _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

81.8lbs this year...you forgot about Greg Myerson
Still a huge fish. Even if I kept it I don't think I would have filleted it. It would have been a trophy fish at least. |

Yep, 81.88 is the record now in Ct. and I dont think that will get beaten for a long long time!!!!! I was in Rhode Island though and I highly doubt it would be a record there either. Im not big on mounting thins with the exception of women!!! A good pic works good enough for me with anything else. And I know Crest Daddy was just kidding, he's a good guy and tried very hard to help me catch my first Striper but instead the big fish took my reel and went away! _________________ There's a fine line between fishing....

I didn't mean mount it. Take it back get it officially weighed in and measured, then fillet it yourself and eat it. Send the pics, weights and measurements into the state for their Trophy fish awards. 40lbs and 45" are the minimum on stripers for CT trophy fish program. |

Went out on the reef today at low tide, and caught a weird-@ss fish off a kastmaster. It was about a foot long, was a grey/brown color, had a snout and teeth. It looked like a freshwater pike. I wonder what it was doing in salt, if it was one. It was extremely bizarre. Maybe it got flushed out of the Housy or some other river during Irene. Got off the hook before I could snap a pic. Other than that, I caught nothing and only saw one small bluefish caught off a tube. |

Well I can tell you I pretty much totally bombed in Stamford! I did catch one Taylor Blue but that was it from 4am until about 10am!!! I did good with Blues again in West Haven as usual though from 7pm until about 2am. 4 in the 32" - 35" range + a few smaller ones. I just missed a 26" striper and a 12" striper being caught there. _________________ There's a fine line between fishing....
