Made the annual trip to the Mash today with fellow memeber Hookset. Arrived at the ramp around 6:45 with only two other trailers/boats there and the upper lot empty. It was a tad chillier in that neck of the woods for sure and we arrived to a nice crisp morning air and a pretty lake covered in a low fog. off we went. At the 1st stop and hookset gets what would turn out to be lunker for the day on his third cast throwing a top water something while walking the dog. Sweet good way to start and we had high hopes for a good day. My last trip there last year was real good and the jig bite that day was on. Today it was not. Ohwell pulled out the DS(old reliable) and went to work. Next spot around one of the islands i got my first fish a smallie about 1.5lbs and i think we also got one or two more just keepers in that general area also. The day panned out to be pretty tough. We got fish here and there but nothing of any real size except for that early 2.5lber.. Probably would have squeeked out a limit but it was a tough bite for us and the bite came in spurts.all said and told we probably got around a dozen. Got a few in the northern part of the lake and a decent pickeral. Most fish caught on the DS with the exception of the top water fish. It was 68 degrees there when we left at 1:00 and 78 degrees in suffield when i got home. water temps for almost all of the lake was 69 degrees.
saw an eagle and a few osprey. nice day on the water.....fishing not so great. guess its going to be hit or miss when you fish there once a year. wish it was closer. i like the lake. |
