Really wanted to get out to Black Point today but I cannot even explain how bad the water was. While going out there there were logs everywhere. I thought the Hurricane would clear up by now but it was very bad. The water was very murky. As we started to go out it was very choppy in the Sound and we had to turn around in fear of damaging a prop. We headed back but decided to just dock at Hamburg Cove and relax for a bit. My girlfriend and I threw in our poles. She came up with a 24" Catfish...this thing was mean. And 2 Eels. Wasnt really expecting to catch anything but bad day became decent. Everything was caught with sandworms on a 3oz. weight.

Yesterday I tried Beseck and caught a LMB and Pike on a Ribbit Bullfrog...Not really much more going on there. The water was also pretty bad there

That's pretty cool. I haven't caught any catfish in Connecticut yet, not even a bullhead. What kind of catfish is that, anyway?

Hi!

I'd say, with 95% accuracy, that it's a Channel Cat !
Their heads always seem to be very big with wide mouths.

It was a channel cat. I caught a few at highland and silver this year too. It's too bad I don't eat them this would have been a big feast lol. My uncle eats them all the time. I haven't run into any bullheads. Seems I run into them only with live bait of course on the bottom. I really don't like sand worms much but there's so many different species that will eat them in the river.

Silver Lake in Berlin? Just don't eat anything out of it, okay? I still don't understand why they stocked channel catfish in a lake that's contaminated with mercury. Confused

Yeah SIlver Lake in Berlin lol. I havent eaten anything out of there although it is fun to fish there over the weeds and pads. I am surprised they havent corrected the DEP Anglers Guide on it. It says 1 fish per month to eat out of there Confused

Nice catch, I caught 3 Bullheads in a little pond behind Middlebury Police Dept yesterday. They were in the 12"- 18" range.

That may be a white catfish in the photo. And a big one at that. If you look at the barbels on the front of it's chin, they are white and that's how you can tell the difference between a white and a channel. A channel cat has darker barbels in that spot.
