Hey I'm Joe. I just found this place out and it could be a great new tool for me. I've been fishing off and on most of my life and I just recently started to self teach myself how to use a baitcaster. I live and fish in northeast corner, mostly shore and sometimes in my dad's canoe. Any suggestions where to fish or any tips in general would be warmly welcomed. Thanks. And Good Luck in the water!

Welcome, Joe! Coincidentally, I just gave up on teaching myself how to use a baitcaster. Everything went back to Cabela's. Good luck!

Thanks guys. Ya made the mistake of buying a cheap Walmart special model. What a mess that was. Now I have a much better upgrade. St Croix Triumph 6'6" and an Abu Garcia Ambassadeur Orra SX. So much smoother. Still have a lot to learn but at least I've caught a few fish on it. Went to Mohegan Park today and caught 3 Lg Mouths. between 2-4 Lbers.

Hey welcome to the site, and to baitcasting. You'll get used to it for sure, and never want to go back. I've been using one for about 30 years, learned how from my dad as a young teenager with a crappy old one in the backyard. I use all Abu/Garcia gear. If you don't mind my asking, where'd you get the Orra SX, haven't seen one of those, I've got 2- 5000,1- 5600 BCX, and a Black Max, always looking for more, and what did it run ya?

Thanks
John

Don't mind at all. I bought the rod and reel at Cabelas in Hartford on August 7th. and the reel was only $99.00

Thanks a lot. I guess Cabelas will be our big shopping spot now that we're moving down to Ct. Usually make the trip to Bass Pro a couple times a season for our big shopping days. 99 bucks is a good price.

Thanks
John

I like Bass Pro better than Cabela's. The way that Cabela's fishing section is organized makes no sense to me at all.

The only thing they did right is put the reels in the rods in close proximity to each other. But finding terminal tackle and lures in there sucks

I have to agree. Cabelas wasnt all I hoped. I had a gift card and I was in the area so I got the gear and the tackle is all over the place. I spent more time walking around than actually finding anything. Never been to Bass Pro but hope to get up to the one in Patriot Place soon.

i have to agree on the organization of the cabela's fishing dept. it's SOMEWHAT organized. i live only a couple miles away. my job is 7 miles from my house and cabela's is about midway between my house and work, so im in there about every other day. i think i know the fishing department better than most of the employees. lol at least everything is grouped together for the most part. but the fact that they change things around every once in a while really messes with me. and not reorganizing either, just rearranging messes. lol
