The morning started out with some frustration as we were hoping for some big fish (striper for me, carp/catfish for Kira) on the CTR. The current was really moving and each cast brought in some sort of debris. The river looked like chocolate milk with about a foot of visibility.
So the decision to move to another spot was easy. Kira brought me to a place that looked like a jungle and had mosquito's the size of dragon flies. However she assured me we would catch some fish and she was right. The first thing I caught was an eel which then became bait.
It was nice to see a normally subdued and quite Kira show some excitement when she caught that bowfin. I actually even saw a smile . It was brief and by the time I got my camera out (to catch the smile on film) her smile was gone.
All in all another enjoyable day fishing!
Thanks Kira. _________________ I'd rather be fishing, than sitting here in front of this computer,,,

Anytime, Rob! Fun times.
And yes, it was a great fighter....like a big bass but less diving and more side-to-side action. Hard to explain. _________________ Kira

Yeah, I heard!
They're such cool fish, unchanged for 150 million years. I hope they don't develop a bad reputation just because they're becoming more common in the area. _________________ Kira

I talked to one of the guys down at ctoutfitters and felt the bowfin shouldnt cause to many problems in the ct river system due to its size. The problem im worried about is people removing the bowfin and putting them elsewhere, In a small body of water they could cause some damage. I have already heard of this being done. Bowfin have lungs, they breath out of water, its a fish that could be moved very easily.
People assume that putting a fish into a small pond is ok, well there are floods, sewer drains, and other ways fish spread. |

I didn't even know bowfin existed until two years ago. I was striper fishing on the CT river in MA...this guy next to me was touched by the fish gods or something, because all within a half hour he pulled in two small sturgeon and a bowfish. Blew my mind. |
