Flippy, I agree with most of what you are saying, but I fish primarily saltwater from a kayak, and love it. If I primarily fished ponds I would go with a canoe.
It sounds like you were fishing from a sit in kayak, which tend to be more difficult to get in and out of. What I use, and 90 percent of the kayak fisherman I know, is a sit on top kayak. They are easy to get on, you can move around a little more, lie down, or even dangle your legs over the sides, without fear of capsizing. But after a couple of hours, I'll still need to find a place to beach and stretch my legs.
I have no room at my condo for a boat, and can't afford a slip at the local marinas, and I have been more than happy with my fishing experiences from the yak. So much so that lately I'm turning down invites from boaters so I can fish from the yak.
There are alot of different type of kayaks out there to suit most peoples needs and in the spring there are a few in water demos where you can try a number of different types brfore you end up buying something you'll never use.

Id like to get dragged around by a 75lb striper in a yak but thats about it for me.
as a bass boat owner the platform, view, space, etc, etc, is top notch. Thankfully ive never owned a yak.....no wait i have one ive just never used it. You can see so much more when your up, looking down onto the water vs. sitting 2' above water level. My back hurts just thinking about it. Kudos to you guys. You guys can fish places we cant so thats a bonus......i think.  |

Jim - I spend a lot of time with these yakkers and have concluded that they're in some sort of denial about the suckitude of their vessels. For the brief amount of time I had a yak I thought it was cool because it's still way better than fishing from shore. I didn't realize how much it sucked until I upgraded. Being able to stand & see underwater structure, not having to paddle, gaining more stability, space, comfort...huge difference! My boat isn't going to set any speed records, but for a single-seater it's the best of both worlds...I've fallen asleep in it, had dinner in it, spent 17 straight hours in it....I love my dinghy.

That Gheenoe 16' Super is pretty sweet. Any canoe that goes 38mph is alright in my book. Plus CT registration would only be $7.50 annually since technically it's considered a canoe.

Your boat looks pretty b@d@$$
I love my yak but wouldn't mind having a little boat that could fit more gear and my @$$ and legs wouldn't fall asleep in. I'm also curious, Can a dog fit in there with you? I always feel bad about leaving my dog at home when I go fishing.

I don't think you'd have a problem fitting a medium sized dog in there comfortably, provided you don't bring everything like I do. Pardon the mess...this was taken during a 15 hour night fishing marathon:
