Went back to Pennfield Reef with some good friends...
Over all....three Blues 3lb, 5lb and 11lb...
Bunch of shorts in the 16-17.5 range...just shy of legal
Bunch of big robins...boooo....
Lots of baitfish....but the blues were wide spread....over a few hours...
We started fishing the baitfish pools.....then ended up trolling over them....back and forth....that's when the big blue struck on the 6 inch stickbait..
Over all...good day... |

Fished the reef this morning low/incoming tide. I caught a small blue fish and a big sea robin. I saw plenty of other fishermen landing small blues and fluke. The deadly dick was the way to go.
If your not fishing for trophies or sustenance, the reef still offers a good time. |

Ugh I went there for the first time on 23July. Launched from Shelton Hung by the lighthouse but couldn't get too close cause of divers. No one else really fishing anywhere near there at all. Got one big hit on squid and I missed my chance. Got nothing else and then I didn't see the big drop off in depth until after I had decided to relocate to Milford. Next time I'll try around the drop off. |

Back out to the reef this morning for incoming tide. Caught two sea robins. Apparently, I missed the stripers, feeding on small blues by about a half hour. The tide was dead low and they were hitting on the outside of the elbow on the reef. A guy I talked to caught a few on flies 24"+. |
