Hi!
This heat wave we're having is causing all kinds of problems.
People, livestock dying - crops burning up, overheated and high power systems use - etc., etc.
As for fish
Well we had a very hard winter with a number of "shallow" Ct. waters having serious fish kills because of the long lasting thick ice cap and O2 depletion.
Now we can very possibly have the same thing happen in reverse with the "shallower" Ct. waters getting too warm!
Fact is warmer waters hold less oxygen than colder (no ice cap) water.
Shallow waters over populated with lots of small fish contributes to O2 depletion also. (Heavy Algae blooms don't help either!)
Fish will be seeking deeper colder waters (Thermal refuges) to find relief from the hot O2 depleted surface waters.
Conditions like these put serious stress on various species of fish and those caught fishing get a double whammy of stress.
I've noticed, the last few days, that I have to go deeper (even at night - which I mostly do) to find fish.
If I can determin (with the help of my fish finder) at what depth the thermocline is (in particular waters that stratify), I'll have better luck fishing slightly above or below it.
Anyone noticing the same

Thanks for the info! I have noticed that the smallmouth are deeper lately, around 5 or 10 ft deeper than usual, and a lot tougher to get a bite... |

Hooray !
The heat wave has broken !
4:45 PM and the temp here in the NW corner is 63 degrees.
What a delightful relief !
Shut off my central air and opened the windows !
Hope this stays this way for a few days.
Cooler temps and water should help the fishing improve.
Enjoy while it lasts !
