The old man and I took a nice trip to his favorite secret pond the other day.The day started off a bit slow, but picked up after a couple hours. We went from 9am to 3pm. As usual he starts off throwing a chartuse spinner bait and I look for the bite with a wacky rigged senko.
About an hour in, my father hooks into a real rod bending, drag pulling, fighter. After a minute or so of playing him out and anxiously waiting to get a look at what he was fighting, the line pops loose and were left only guessing how big he may have been. This kick started my dads grumpy mood after waiting over and hour for his first bite.(he likes fast results)
Within an hour of that, I hit two 3-0's on my senko under two small groups of lily pads in about 5fow. Finally he sets the hook again on his spinner, and pulls in a nice 3-10. Hit him right along side a lay down in 2fow.Cheered him right up!
We get to the thick pads and I throw my ragetail frog, and within 4 or 5 casts, I get a HUGE surface strike, set the hook, and pull in a nice 3-9.
We each got a couple 2lbers while working random small lily pad groups, and decided to call it a day.

Great job to you and your dad. I love those shallow, weedy, lilly filled lakes. |
