Fished saint mary's for the last hour b4 dark yesterday for porgies. Haven't gone for them in 10 yrs or more. Was a blast. Ran into a good dude i met in derby last spring and everyone there was getting fish. I was using 2 rods which were too much to keep up with all the hits. Sandworms and squid were my baits but i think I'll skip the costly sandworms next time and just go back to the fish market for more tentacles . They thread on the hooks great. Here's a few i kept.

I just got the tentacles from the grocery store. Pulled them apart and threaded them on like a worm. |

Another trick is to cut in strips......
Be sure to scrape of the color on the outside of the squid.....so the whole thing is white....
The color of the squid is like camo....all white...they won't miss it!
Works great for fluke, etc.... |

Not a bad bag of fish. You fillet em? I dont have any shore spots for big porgies like that. I do most of my fishing between old saybrook (once in a while) down to the new london ares (at its farthest reach) Mostly around the niantic area. Gotta few spots in the boat though, get em mostly 15-16 inches. Some up to 18!!
I like to buy the box of squid from the grocery store. 3lb box cost 6 bucks. I'll defrost em, clean em, slice em up, and re-freeze em in separate bags for grab and go. If you're ever fishin for em and the bite is a little on the slower side, try adding some color to your rig. Orange seemed to work best for me. Sometimes can be the difference between catchin and not catchin, or more importantly, between keepers and pests
Beads, spinners, bucktail teasers, etc. They can all make a HUGE difference. _________________ ...of all the liars among mankind, the fisherman is the most trustworthy.
