Well, last week I had off and decided to spend a few days fishing all over just for fun.
Day 1, Took the Hobie PA and went down the Mattabassett river to the CT river. Fished with creatures baits and frogs. caught a few bass nothing bigger then 2lbs.
Day 2. Put in at the Bantam River with the Hobie PA (thanks to Peco) made to the damn, fished using a senco. This was more of a lazy day of yaking with the occasional bass fishing. What a nice place. I caught about a dozen bass all around 1-1.5lbs. Relaxing day.
Day 3 (night) Went to Masapaug and fished from 6 - midnight. MAN those smallies are strong in that there lake.. What an assume time. biggest SMB ran 4.8lbs. betwen the three of us on the Skeeter collectively we caught about 18 fish. I WILL be going back..!
Day 4 Hit Lake McDoungh, lazy day the wife sitting on the back reading and I was playing with my newest toy Humminnbird 998 c SI (SWEET). As my wife was swimming and I'm watching her image on the side imaging I notoiced some fish.. Hey, look at that.. So I started throwing a jig&pig.
1st fish, 2.8 smb. 2nd 2lb smb. 3rd fish 5lb lmb.
I told the wife to keep swimming, cuz it must be drawing them in.. to bad she go tired and came back on the boat. shortly after 0.15oz lmb. So I told the wife, go do some more swimming..! No luck. with that.
Just after we left a 23yo guy drowned trying to swim to an island. Sad.
Day 5 CT river, I took one of my buddies from the firehouse fishing Haddam north to try and find some new honey holes. We did ok. nothing to brag about...
All in all, a good vacation week.
I have plans to hit Congamond this Friday...
PS I spent $300.00 in gas alone for the boat and truck..
Tight lines...! _________________ Sleep...Eat...Fish!!!!! Then do it all over again. |

Nice, Ron! What were you throwing on Mashapaug?
Are you going to get the Hobie wrapped, too? _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

A fellow member and myself have been doing very well at McDonough. Only been there twice so far this year but the first trip produced 5 over 3lbs and a crap load of 2 to 3lbers. Most of the 3+ fish were smallies. The last trip this past weekend(sunday) started off kinda slow but we finally got into them and managed to put together another very good bag of fish. Dropped an easy 4+ smallie at the side of the boat. Love the place. I dont believe we have caught one short from this place in those trips and every fish has been 1.5lbs or better. gotta love that. |

How deep are those fish at McDonough? _________________ Catch and release only.

"how deep are the bass at McDonough"....................you can catch them from any depth. Depends on how you like to fish and what your comfortable with.Speaking for ourselves most of our fish are coming from 10'+ and not on the banks. Over the years i have found my "spots" that produce and those are the same places i hit when im there. McDonough is like any other lake. You can catch fish shallow or deep. as for baits.....................we throw alot of soft plastics. If you dont mind paying $12 to fish there, put your time in, you can be greatly rewarded. It is a fantastic fishery.
skeeteron..........that place at night could be outright silly! Its a crying shame that the upper res is not accesable! imagine the pigs that could be up there!! |
