I'd rather have an awesome photo instead of any wall mount. I bring a stringer so my catch can swim around while I find a place to set up my "good" camera & tripod. _________________ Kira

Here is the big question..... Mr 10 lb Bass inhales the hook. You fight him for a good 5 to 10 minutes through the weeds gentle like but remember now, he's gut hooked. You just don't know it till you land him. So now you go to retrieve the hook (after you come to and catch your breath just looking at the shear size of the Behemoth). You see that his stomach is pulled through and he's bleeding bad! This happened due to the fight and the weight of the fish. Wether you miraculously were able to get the hook out or you cut the line you know that he will be floating in the water next to your boat in 3 minutes after you try to revive him.... do you keep him then???
I would keep him only in this instance. What would all of yas do? _________________ Oh man... you got Onzo'd! |

I took two largemouth bass last year after I tried to revive them and they didn't make it. It's gonna happen, no matter how careful you are. And they were delicious! _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

Hey Kira!
Give your bass to "Mikey' -> Oh! I meant "Billy" -> He'll eat anything

without hesitation the fish would be released. pictures would be good enough for me. Besides the wife probably wouldnt like a 10lber hanging on the living room wall next to the flatscreen. |

I would have to say a gut hooked trophy bass would become a skin mount for me.
I don't eat fish, but even if I did, I would feel that a fish that size and age deserves a more glorious fate than just to be eaten like any other of his fellow smaller brothers.
What better way to honor him than to immortalize him as a beautiful, well crafted, work of art? that is, if the only alternative is him bleeding to death. _________________ Am I obsessed, or is it normal to play with my lures every night? |

Here's how I decided to make somthing of my first 2 4+lbers.
Made them a couple years ago.
The smallie was 4lbs even from highland lake, caught on mothers day around 6pm on a top water popper in front of a dock.
The LMB was 4lbs 7oz, caught on crysal lake in ellinton/stafford/tolland. with a wacky senko in early spring under a shallow dock, around 5 or 6pm
Both were weighed, measured, photographed and released.

Not to brag but I've had to make a tough decison on whether to keep a bass not once but twice!
Here's my personal best at 7.4 pound Largemouth Bass caught 6/19/09
My camera fell in the water that day I caught this bass! I begged my father to meet me at the lake and luckily he did. I had thought the bass was about 5 pounds but while waiting for my father at the ramp a guy let me use his scale and that's when I found out what the real weight was! Luckily she made the 1 hour wait on the back of the trout stringer and swam off great after a few pictures.
Here's a 7.1 pound Largemouth Bass caught 6/21/10
thought about keeping it but thinking about what the fish had to endure in its life to get so big I decided on letting her go. This time she was only out of the water for about 1 minute. Since I had been lucky and tangled with a few 7's already I can guarantee that I will never take home a bass for the wall. As they always say a picture is worth a thousands words, and if I were to hook up with a new state record Largemouth Bass I still wouldn't kill it for the wall unless I caught it from BATTERSON! _________________ http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o21/PickerelPete/IfeH-r.gif |

The biggest largemouth I've caught was 7 pounds out of a lake in Jaffrey NH, only a few miles from where I live now, but not for long(see a post I did in general topics). I didn't think twice, took 2 pictures and off she went for someone else to enjoy catching. Hopefully I can run into something like that Ct when we move. |
