I've recently decided to try my luck on some of the gorgeous bodies of water that this state has to offer. I figured, what better way to learn about the better spots than to join this forum?! Does anyone know some good areas to target some big Bronze Backs or perhaps even some Muskellunge? Hope to see you on the water!

Hey Al!
Longtime Connecticut angler here. Like to extend a humble "Welcome," from everyone in the state. I assume you are looking especially for Smallmouth Bass and I have to say that Candlewood would probably suit your tastes best. It has a reputation as the unofficial Smallmouth capital of CT. Also, as the CT river gets low for the summer, it can provide some excellent wading for Smallies. I'd love to take you out on the upper CT wading anytime this month (I have extra waders if you need them). Anyway, look forward to seeing you out there.
P.S. Did you move here or just thinking of visiting? |

Well hello there sir, glad to see you're a fan. Fishing has been very good to my family and I, I guess you could say it saved my life in a lot of ways. That and the good word of the Lord of course. Hopefully the fishing bug gets a hold of you the same way as it has me!
Babycubcatcher - I must say that is a very unique name. I have heard that the upper Connecticut River is a very strong Smallmouth fishery along with Stripers at the right time of year if I'm not mistaken. I heard anywhere above Hartford is good for the Bronze Backs. Although there is one dilemma, I hope you aren't too close to the Suffield/Enfield bridge, I heard through the grapevine that some pretty "un-godlike" things that go down under there. Although I've heard the local police force has taken control of the scene, I would still "watch your back." I have a pair of waders, but havent put them on since 1986. They were given to me as a gift from a local legend of the Lake Erie area simply known as "The CastMaster." Last time I put them on I slipped on a rock, fell in the water over my head and saw my life flash in front of my eyes as my waders filled with water as I helplessly floated down stream. Good thing Ron was there to grab me or else I probably wouldn't be writing this to you now. I usually stick to my favorite fishing vessels which of course are the Lund line of boats. The V-hulls make navigating a river like the CT River perfect for stalking those elusive giant Smallmouth Bass that we all love so much. So again, hopefully we will run into each other on the water in the near future. Until then, tight lines and remember do everything you do in the eyes of the Lord, you'll catch bigger fish, I promise!
