I use 2/0 Gamakatsu weedless octopus hooks. I've gotten used to them. Everyone that I give them to, seems to not hook the fish properly either. I find that reeling and sweeping seems to work best.
PECo - I find that the wacky tool is definitely worth it also. The other day I decided to roll on an o-ring without the tool. I ended up with a senko that was half the correct color and the other was another. The pressure of the o-ring squeezed the hell out of the senko! I heard of using a pen, but that will break in time and doent hold the o-rings. _________________ When in doubt, rip their lips out! |

I’ve still yet to land a fish while wacky rigging even though I’ve tried it many times. Even on days when I was doing pretty well catching them with a texas rig, I switched to the wacky rig and never once managed to hook up. I’ve had many takes, always give it a good 3 or 5 seconds and then try to set the hook… and always miss. I’ve even tried just reeling with light pressure, and pulled the fish within ~10 feet of the boat before… but somehow they always miss the hook lol. I’m using size 2 circle hooks that look something like this:
anyone have any ideas? i'm using an o-ring on a 5" watermelon redflake dinger _________________ PB's:

I use the #4 "octopus" circle hook. I'm guessing you're setting the hook too hard and pulling the hook right out of the fish's mouth.
The regular circle hook and the way it is bent if you pull too hard it won't set the hook. Give the octopus a try and see what happens. |
