So I got this fish off a pier in Key West casting a baby fluke into a monster school of baitfish. I'm not sure exactly what kind of fish it is, but I think it might be some kind of jack or a blue runner. Any help? |

| yeah looks like a baby jack to me as well. the big ones hit like you've got a mini cooper on your line. I got a big one tarpon fishing in Islamorada |

Its a blue runner. Related to the jack crevalle. Both fun to catch, especially with lighter tackle. Blue runners are used for bait to catch the big stuff!

PECo - I've never eaten one, but according some people I spoke to, they are not good eating. BUT, we know that some people eat ANYTHING! Now I do know that jack crevalle taste like sh@t. Fight like hell !!! Caught both on large Krocodile spoons with single hooks. They head straight down toward the rocks, drag burners

These are jack crevalles.
We kept 8 out of about 20 that we caught that day. I caught the most, of course! Check out the bucket !!
Too bad they tasted nasty !! AND I fried them too, which anything fried usually tastes good. Dark, oily meat. Kind of like blues. Maybe smoked would be better ?

| Thanks guys. It did fight real hard. I was only using my bass rod with #10 line and a #25 leader and I thought it would break. Too bad the 5 foot tarpon I hooked on the next cast did haha Sounds good to me that I didn't keep it to eat like I was thinking about doing. |
