Fished Quonnipaug for a couple of hours before work today. Pitched my jig into the weeds a few times before I decided that something closer to the surface might be more appropriate. First cast I took, swimming the jig, just below the surface produced a 3-lber. Second cast produced a 1.5 lber and I thought I was really onto something,...but that was it for the next hour or so, during which time I also tried a swimbait, buzzbait and soft jerkbait! Eventually I got more action,.. but with some smallies of all things!
Caught one smallie that slammed my jig, spit it, then slammed it again...then a few casts later as I was reeling in, right next to the boat,...I had one climb onto the jig! Then before I could get that one out of the water a second fish tried to attack it while it was still in the first bass' mouth!! If I'd have had a bait with a treble hook or two I'm sure I'd have had a double!
Anyway, before I could re-rig after that one shredded my trailer, some thunder/lightning began,..so I just high-tailed it in and called it a day! _________________ "If people concentrated more on the really important things in life there'd be a shortage of fishing poles."

Sweet stuff mark! I thought one of the 2's I got last night was a smallie- jumping like crazy and pale as all hell.
No idea where to start for smallies on that lake |

Nick,..I'm not sure how productive it's going to be to try and target them. From what I understand,..they are not native to the lake and the DEP was definitely not who put them in there,..so I'm sure the population is not very big. These were the first two I ever caught there in all the times that I've been going there, the last few years! (additionally, I saw someone else catch one, one other time). They were all away from the weedy areas,..just suspending along the steep/rocky bank that borders RT 77 if that helps any! _________________ "If people concentrated more on the really important things in life there'd be a shortage of fishing poles."

Nice job with the smallies Mark! Sounds like they were really hungry. _________________ Eat, Sleep, Fish......I Love my SKEETER ZX225!!!
