I'm not saying he is wrong at all. And I know where you are talking and I saw it triple the amount of people in three weeks to the point u can't fish there. I think we all get the point by now and myself and others learned a lesson. So all in all we now know to say what we caught and the area but not that spot. Let's all just let it go and move on to fishing. And crabbing lol.

Funny, but all of the spots that I know for fishing don't belong to me. Wink

While I understand if you do not want to share information, that's your choice. Keep it to yourself, then. But if I want to share information, that's my choice. And that's true for anyone else.

Those guys all came down on you because they were jealous, Damian!

Night Fisher,

thanks for the post, I actually did not see where you were talking about but that's ok. I do not understand why people have to go ape shit on you for an honest mistake. Post what you want.

Hi!

Have to completely agree with Phil.
This forum was formed by the owner to get away from the BS reports put out as on other Ct. fishing forums.

If you don't want to share information with fellow fishermen -> Then don't post Exclamation

And it is "WRONG" to criticize" those on this forum that do care to share their info because it is "NOT" in keeping with why the owner of this forum started it in the 1st place to be Exclamation

A forum that shares all kinds of info and helps fellow fishermen !
That is precisely why this particular forum is so popular and growing more and more each day.

Also " NO ONE -> NO ONE" has singular rights to any fishing spot within the public fishing domain.

So "Boo-Hoo !" to those that think that their supposedly special public fishing spot is theirs alone Exclamation
With today's modern technology -> there are NO MORE secret spots ANYWHERE !
The ONLY secret fishing spots NOW are -> "Private Waters" !

I hate the lake X posts or the photos that have been edited to remove the background. If you have to do that and don't post details about temps, what was working what wasn't etc., Then start your own facebook page and put your hero shots up there. If you are giving up a good report and want to protect your spot, I'm cool with that .

I'm also not for giving coordinates or specific directions in public, but I have no problem sharing them in a PM and I have. Mater of fact CThonker has helped me out tons with my waterfowl hunting and all of it was through PMs. thanks CTH.

If you don't want to share locations, then don't, if you do then great share away. Just remember that there are probably 20 times the amount of lurkers reading this board then members and all they want is locations, locations, locations. I say let them contribute and then give them locations, that's all.

Just my .02 cents.

I agree with everyone except Seadog1.

This whole sharing initiative is a nice concept and all, but anyone can read our reports without contributing a damn thing. Every post is indexed by Google and can be read by nameless, faceless strangers. Obviously, not everyone has bad intentions, but there's no way of knowing who reads our posts. I'm strictly catch & release when it comes to bass, so why potentially help poachers by telling them where to find bass in quantity? And if I catch a chunky bass, then why would I publicly announce the exact location I caught it? This info could be read by people with no qualms about taking a trophy bass and selling/mounting/eating it. Screw that...I'd rather protect the fish.

Also...exactly what Dave said - I fish at night solo too...hell no, I don't want weirdos figuring out my "pattern" or I'm going to have my quiet solitude destroyed, or worse - end up at the bottom of Lake X. This whole all-or-nothing attitude is the reason I contribute but rarely post. Yes, I fish a lot and yes, I have a lot to share...but I feel a great need to be selective with my contributions on this site. I hope the rest of you consider the pros and cons when posting on any public forum.

I am happy to help people I know, like and trust, and I'll share my knowledge with them...via PM and Facebook.

Hi Kira!

I highly respect your dedication to catch and release -> and that's perfectly OK!

I also agree that selling fish without a legal Lic. is wrong.

But criticizing those that would care to mount a trophy fish or eat a fish is a matter of their individual choice and not your's to condem!

As far as the lurkers or those who just want to get general info and locations on where to fish from this forum?
So??????? -> This is an open forum for anyone to read.
If it was a closed forum -> you'd have to pay a fee to be a member to read any of it.

Well -> You did check the satelite pic of where that 9 lb. Bass was caught and did find the relatively exact location (per the observed power lines).

If you can -> anyone can!

With all the lake/pond/river charts, topo maps, satelite imagery, fish finders, and some individual research -> There are no public fishing areas that haven't been scoured by the increased number of knowledgeable fishermen/women today!
Heck! I use all the time satelite/chart overlays to find likely best fishing locations. Including surface water temps when available.

Catching that big fish (in what ever body of water it happens to live in) is still up to the skills, technique, and luck of the fisherman.

Again -> I agree completely with Phil, that it is a matter of choice to post or not to post or to do with the fish that one catches (release, mount or eat).
And as you well know he posts some of the best reports (with detailed specifics plus pics and videos) of any member on this forum. -> HIS CHOICE Exclamation
KUDOS to you Phil Exclamation

If you don't want to make same said type reports -> "That's Your Choice!"
There is no need to criticize any member here that wants to report (even in detail) on their fishing experiences.

As far as your comment about someone figuring out your personal fishing pattern(s) -> that's pushing the envelope a bit to the extreme!
As far as staying safe when fishing alone as you do and at night! -> YES! I agree with you 100%

As you know (and I have made no secret of it!) that all summer -> I fish exclusively for Kokanee Salmon -> "Love my Silver Bullet Psycho Fish" -> Challenging, difficult to find, much paitience requiered, very hard fighting, addictive, and Oh! so good to eat or wood smoke!

Why don't I post reports on my Koke fishing -> Simple -> "because I Choose Not To" Exclamation
I have though made many reports on other fishing experiences of mine!

Again! -> This forum was started by its owner so that fishermen could exchange, report, and share info on their fishing experiences in what ever detail(s) as they choose, and that Lake X reports are seriously discouraged!

The bottom line -> it is a matter of individual CHOICE Exclamation

Best regards,
SeaDog1

WOW!
I never would have thought giving someone a place to catch blue crabs would bring up such a debate. I actually regret posting lol. As a new member to this site I am glad i get to see who is who. This whole debate brought up many different views. With all the views/choices we make and have are our own. In light of all this maybe there should be a private area. But, until that is figured out we should just be cautious of what we say. Including myself, we should keep some level of respect for people and places.

Let's just fish!
Dennis

Hi Night Fisher!

Nah! This controversial debate has been on going since this forum was 1st started!
Comes up every so often and how and why this form came to be.
You have nothing to be sorry for at all Exclamation
Post what you feel like reporting or not post and keep it to yourself.

Use the PM to send selective reports to those you want -> That's the private area.

Discouraging Lake X reports and just plain old bragging BS without even providing simple details is why this forum was concieved by the owner.

Anyone -> can do the simplist internet research to find any fishing or crabbing locations in Ct. -> Not exactly rocket science Exclamation

I'm not criticizing anyone, Stephen. Right now, there are 2 registered users online, one hidden user (probably me) and 12 guests. Those ratios are pretty standard from what I've seen. 80% of the views are by people who have no intention of sharing any info at all.

Hi Kira,

I know that Exclamation

It's just something you have to live with on an Open Forum!

I'm just saying we don't have to lower ourselves or this forum to the BS level that other Ct. fishing forums do.

Just post reports (with relavent details) that you feel comfortable with and if not -> Don't post Exclamation

Telling Where, When, What, and How isn't written in blood or carved in granite -> Making a bragging fishing post without even simple details is total BS!

This is what this forum has tried to seriously discourage !!

Best regards always Woman !

Ummmm,
back to the point of this thread, I have not yet crabbed this year as Im back living in the hartford area,
Last year the crab where in already in august like numbers in june and early july.
Though due to the extreme winter we had alot of places where crabs hibernate may have been hurt by the ice.
Is anybody seeing this?
well tight trot lines, and full traps to ya

Starting to see keepers in decent numbers around old lyme/saybrook area. Very active low tide at sunset.
