well another thing i have noticed is due to higher water,low light and wacky weather the grass in most lakes i have fished thusfar is far from what it usually is this time of year. This can really affect the fishing as well,especially in lakes with not that much other cover. The bite this time of year is fickle enuff without all this weird weather we are having. In ponds with weed cover, largemouth bass are hitting frogs. I've been watching mep21 (aka Mark) get hit after hit on Zoom Horny Toads. He's even managed to land some of them.
In ponds with little weed cover, I've been looking for fish deeper this year than I have in the past. I'm finally enjoying fishing a drop shot, although the only bait I've used so far is 2-1/2 inch Gulp minnows on Gamakatsu drop shot hooks. But I'm going to try some bigger baits. Could anyone tell me what kind of hook they use to drop shot finesse worms? And when you tie on your hook, do you use a Palomar knot and stick the tag end of the line through the front (aka barb) side of the hook? It seems like my hooks always end up upside down when I do that. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter!
Peco I use a size #2 hook when I tie drop shots. Also if your hook ends up upside down, it does sometimes happen, and to me too. What I started doing is if that happens then I just tie the hook facing the opposite way I want it to be, and that seems to work fine.

MarkO told me that if your hook ends up upside down, stick the tag end of your line back through the eye of the hook and it'll flip over. It works, but you end up with a big clot of line at the hook. I realize that this is a silly topic, since there are only two ways to tie a drop shot hook on with a Palomar knot , but I was just curious about how other fishermen do it.
I'm going to mess around with a small worm hook and a finesse worm on a drop shot today. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter!

When you are tying the palomar for a drop shot start the knot going through the eyelet of the hook from the back of the hook. Then the tag end is already facing toward the back of the hook.
