Hi All!
Just as an FYI -> It's "smooth dogfish" that is used for classic British "Fish n' Chips", after it's soaked in saltwater to get rid of the urea in the flesh.
Spiny dogfish aren't used at all.

Both species are present in the sound, look very similar, spiny's have bonelike spikes on their backs, and spots, smooth hounds no spike no spots.
unfortunately neither species is protected, some of my friends kill them for fun and Gaff practice, and I doubt they are the only ones. Though is does suck having a dog destroy an expensive fluke rig you hand tied. Though I dont condone the abuse of the species. And if we didnt over fish the "good" fish a niche for the "trash" wouldnt have developed. Though I do what to try one. supposed to be good once you prepare it, like Seadog mentioned, or i read to marinate them. |

I fish a lot in the summer in the sound. If I bag a good size one do you want it. I can catch a few a night usually. _________________ Better things happen at night! |
