Yesterday, mep21 (aka Mark), DirtyDawg10 (aka Derek), Fishface (aka Tim) and I paddled the small stretch of the Connecticut River in Glastonbury between Crow Point Cove and Keeney Cove from 4:15 pm to 9:15 pm. Mark and I got there first. We launched from the east bank after schlepping our kayaks down the steep bluff from Riverfront Park on Welles Street:
Fishwise, unfortunately, I don't have much to report. I got skunked after throwing/trolling a Sebile Magic Swimmer, a Mepps Aglia bucktail inline spinnerbait, a gold Rebel floating stickbait, a white Bomber Long A floating stickbait and a wacky rigged Senko. Derek got a couple and Tim got a few small keeper largemouth bass. Mark got several small largemouth bass on both a four+ inch Rapala floating stickbait and a Baby Brush Hog in Crow Point Cove:
Mark also caught the only striped bass of the evening in the cove, a 15 inch schoolie that was the first one he's ever caught:
We mostly had a good exploratory paddle around the area. We paddled up to and into Keeney Cove just to check it out. It's still flooded almost up to the level of Point Road, but the gate at the top of the road was open. I'd like to head back to Crow Point Cove in the Fall, when there might be some hungry northern pike lurking in there. Incidentally, after we got back to our cars in the mosquito infested darkness, a couple of Glastonbury's finest very graciously informed us that the park closes 30 minutes after sundown. Luckily, Tim had hidden the human cargo that we were smuggling in the trunk of his car. Seriously, they were really cool about us being there so late and even gave us directions to Plan B. Phil you are too quick for me. I had everything typed up last night, but when I hit submit it wouldn't post. Even saved the story on my computer so I could try later. Thanks for covering for me though! And thanks for helping get me on my first striper!

It was a fun paddle and a nice area to check out but as far as fish there was not much to mention. I only caught 1 LMB in Crow Point cove and it was as I was trolling a gold lipless crankbait out of the cove. I got this 13" LMB...
We decided to paddle up river to Keeney Cove and got to the entrance just as the sun was setting it was beautiful but I didn't want to take my hands off the paddle to take a pic because the manatee (my inflatable yak) is not the most agile and I was fighting the CT river current, which wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. We arrived at Keeney just in time for the mosquitos to eat us alive. They were not even deterred by the deet we were all wearing...and I tossed my polarized glasses in the water trying to apply mosquito repellant. I caught a very short LMB, maybe 6 or 7 inch, on the same lipless crank off a stand of grass.
I had a chance at an approx. 1.5lb LMB when I threw the crank into a patch of weeds and began pulling a nice one out of there. I got the fish to the side of the boat and as I was lifting it to my lap it shook the hook and swam off. After that we took off because it was dark. We saw the Lady Katherine cruising up the river as we were leaving the river and were hoping she wouldn't run us over. The treck up the bank in the dark was not the best part of the trip.

My 2 cents. I caught 3 lmb 2 under 7" 1 over 12". If I ever go back there I will find alternate launching sites. Pulling my Kayak back up the 70Degree incline was to F--king nuts for me, with Phil's help at the end (thanks Phil). I think I'm getting to old for that crap. Like Phil said it looks like a nice place for fall. I think we all would have had more fish if the water was not so stained.

We didn't go past point rd. The water level was too low to go over the road and too high to get under it. Plus it was getting pretty dark by the time we got there.
try launching behind riverfront field, park in the old michlin tire parkinglot and walk down, plannin on hitting it there tomorrow morning but no boat so im making my attempts from shore, any advice? _________________ "Just one more cast"

If the old Michelin Tire is that building between the baseball diamond and the river, don't park there or you'll get ticketed. It's all posted and Glastonbury police are vigilant. The policemen did say that it will soon be redeveloped into a boat launch ramp. But progress has been slow.
