I plan on going fishing sometime in the upcoming weeks off the jetty at hammonasset. Im going to try to go as early as possible, so probably like 2-4 a.m.. I'm not the most experienced saltwater fisherman, so I was wondering if I could get some general tips and advice from people who have experience fishing their. Any suggestions?

I went to the Jetty this past weekend with some fluke rigs with smelt and squid on the hook. We pulled one small fluke out and there were 20-30 people there getting nothing. Pink is the hot color for Fluke in June but other colors can produce as well. The water is still pretty cool but the bite should pick up in the next few weeks. If you want to catch stripers I would get either eels, mackeral or bunker. Definitely throw some eels in there at night time if you want a nice striper. I will be back out there soon looking for some Stripers too. You can catch anything if you use sandworms and they will usually produce a variety of critters (sea robins, blackfish, skates, fluke, stripers, all o fthe above) but typically aren't going to land you the prize fish. Hope this helps... Happy fishing and tight lines!
