Started out at 7am.

light rain, slite breeze from the east. water temp was 63. Very over cast most the day.

Pounded the cove on the third bay for about 3hrs, partners caught some nice fish. I got more red eye rock bass and slim darts.

Hit the cove at the far end, pull a few off beds. Moved to the spill way area few more off beds.

I threw a 6" swin bait in 20FOW and had a MONSTER bass follow it to the boat, I did the figure 8 along side one untill it notice me and took off. Yes, I cried. long and hard. I could have netted his butt but that would be cheating.

Finished at 3pm, Lunker for the day was a 4lber (not mine I may add) with a bunch or dinks. The bite was very tough.

Some bed, but not many. I think this rain is messying them up some..

I remember reading a post a few years back with the same situation at Highland. Big bass following a swimbait only to go back to the depths unhooked.
Seems as if that lake has a number of big fish in it, but doesn't garner the reputation as say, East Twin, for quality bass. I wonder if it has a reputation for being stingy though?

A buddy of mine throws big baits and he does real well, I impressed. But what I'm learning is that you have to be diligent and patient when throws big baits.

My game plan for this year (Which is subget to change) get a few in the boat, then start throw the big stuff.

PS, I have no problem being honest, telling people what I used and where. Many times I have been on the a boat throwing the same bait as my partner and he's catching fish and I'm left scartching my head wondering what I'm doing wrong. It all in the technique and having confidence in yourself and know how to use the bait you have. I'm still learning to apply this.

I love highland, but have never had a "great" day there, big baits or otherwise. I have slung around 7 inch Swimbaits and caught fish. The Tru-Tungsten Tru life 7" actually does a sweet turnaround when you stop it, which helps trigger strikes. It pulls a "crazy Ivan."

I'm looking at a 3:16 hard bait that has high reviews. the only problem is that it's $85.00 ON SALE..! Ouch.

Which one? The baby wake? I have one in baby bass and it is gorgeous. The other 3:16 hardbait I have is the Armageddon, which I plan to launch this weekend. I've had it for 5 years and have never really used it in earnest because I'm afraid to frighten all of the fish in Connecticut with it. It's more of a California/Texas sized bait, though I'm sure it will get whacked here someday. Just probably not by something less than 4 pounds. I'm not that patient.

I thinks it's new but it's the 6"Free style..

Can you imagine throwing that and hearing "snap". OMG..!

ron, that was a strange day, both myself and partner had many big bass follow our baits to the boat only to take off once they saw us. Even tried the figure 8 Laughing

Highland has some nice fish in there. to catch trout go into the second circle, for bass and pickeral go to the last circle. i went fishing there on may 14 and around 6:45 PM i caught a 21 inch 4 pound large mouth bass.
