Took Friday afternoon off from work and decided to head to Batterson. Got there around 1:00. Sunny skies and 82°F water. Fished the pads in 1-2 fow using a black neon with red flakes tube. Got a couple of 1-1.5lb dinks that would explode on the tube as I dragged it across the top. Love that topwater strikes! Around 4-4:30 the clouds started to roll in and the bite pretty much died using the black. Figured I'd try my go to tube color of white and started to fish the riprap in 5-6 fow dragging the tube through the weeds painstakingly slow trying to feel for some lunker bites. Then it happened! I got this tug which I then put my rod low, reeled in the slack and set the hook. Instantly my rod doubled over into a u shaped form and I had what I knew was a nice pig! I nearly sh@t in my pants! My drag was screaming for a second as the fish made its way into the weeds further away from the boat. After what felt like 10 minutes I was able to get the fish withing sight of the boat but still out of reach. HOLY Sh@T I thought in my mind as I saw what appeared to be a pig that was easily 8.5-9lbs. Every time it got close enough and I'd reached for the fish it would dive back down into the weeds again. As it did this several times the total weight of the fish and the weeds got heavier and heavier. Finally my rod snapped 6 inches from the top. Damn! Now I'm thinking I'd better land this fish before something else breaks. As I thought of my line snapping, it did just that. My fish was gone. All I could do was sit there for 5 minutes reliving the battle that just occurred and realized that since it was almost time for me to go get my daughter anyways that I might as well leave now considering nothing was going to top that fish today. My personal best that almost was. Sorry people, had I landed it I would have had a nice pics for you folks.

Yeah Next level, I'll only have 25 to choose from instead of 26! Very Happy I'll be going light (4-5 rods) as I will be in my partner's boat for Mansfield. Thanks in advance for the CTFishTalk decals, they look great.
