Oh well folks.... I had a huge (biggest of my life) smallie on the hook. First big fish on my new set up (Shimanu CI4 Micro with a St Croix 6'6" Medium/Light). As I laid down on the flat rock skinning my knee in the process the F#c%er snaped my line when I reached out to grab him under his gill! This my friends is what "Getting Onzo'd means. I have to tell you he fought like a sunny! They are still pretty lethargic.

Isnt that the way it always goes down??? You lose a great fish and something else bad happens to you at the same time. Dam hope ur knee is good,at least you got the fish almost landed.

Nice try on landing her ,but next time lip her instead of trying to get under her gill plate. It works much better for landing them.

The knee will be good thanks but my pride is in shambles! I usually do "lip" them but this one was so big I didn't want to screw it up.

I found out years back maybe 4 that there was some in east lake

I havnt caught any!!!

Though two of my friends have
To make a long story short my buddy was using a spit n image brought a decent smb in to shore
Line snaps
We look down and see the spit n image "floating" he reaches down for it and the spit n image takes off lol

The smallmouth was still attached

From what one of the guys at the bait shop said "the old timers put them in there"

I love east lake especially when he water level is down.
Plenty of 5lb + largemouth still in there
