Hey there! I'm a newbie to the forums. I live in Brooklyn and mostly fish the Westchester-area resevoirs. I post often at Westchesterfishing forum under the same avatar.

Lately, I've been considering fishing Candlewood and other nearby lakes. I'll fish anybody of water, but I don't own a boat being stuck in the city...

I'm heading to Stafford, CT for a few days and will post up asking for tips on shorefishing that area in the appropriate section of the forums.

I blog too at deadbait on wordpress.

Looking forward to learning and contributing back to CTFishTalk.

Welcome aboard. Were you referring to the reservoir next to Interstate 684 in Westchester County? I've always wondered whether I could put a kayak in there and fish it. I haven't seen many boats there, but think that I saw some rowboats stored on the shore.

Hey PECo,
The Westchester area has no less than 21 NYC reservoirs (15 in WC county, and 6 in Putnam). There are several off 684, the East Branch, Titicus, the Muscoot, Cross River, Amawalk, Byram Lake, and Kensico (Rye Lake actually). Kensico is really my favorite. There are brown trout, Lakers, SM, LMB, white/yellow perch, pickerel, Calico, you name it... And they are all within a 45 min. from each other btw White Plains and where 84 and 684 cross. I've been fishing the rez for about 3 years now.

You can google map it and scroll up and down 684, you'll see the reservoirs on the highway.

Most have rowboats (no combustion/electric motors allowed) on them, but there are some funky rules that keep yaks off the reservoir.

"If you want to fish the reservoirs from a boat you are required to have an aluminum boat (minimum length of 11’6) and it must remain in a designated reservoir mooring area. It must be initially brought to a D.E.P. boat permit office for inspection, cleaning, and registration. There is no charge for a two (2) year renewable permit. " - according Jack Stewart Marine website (local supplier and boatseller).
