We had planed to go to Kenosia in Danbury, but the launch was flooded so my Son and I headed up to Ball Pond. I'm far from a seasoned angler and this was by far the biggest bass I've ever caught anywhere. Fish was on the bottom in about 6ft of water. Caught on a special edition watermellon magic Senko. As I usually do when I'm with my son and he is complaining that he's not catching anything, I hand him the rod when I get bit and he reels it in. I didn't think this one was any different than all the other 1.5-2.0lb bass I've caught at Ball in the past until it nears the boat and dives, turning the boat around. I controlled the drag while my Son reeled. The fish made four dives at the boat and I thought my son was going to drop the rod on several of them. Once it tired and we caught a glimpse, I was stunned. I was literaly shaking in my legs when we were taking pictures. Of course I didn't bring a scale and the fish was released to be caught another day. I've caught a 4 pounder in the past and this one had to be almost 2x that. We also caught several other after that around 2 lbs. Not too bad for my first fish of the year. Sad thing is, I'll probably never catch one as big again.
Sorry for the bad cell pics.
Steve

Last Spring, a DEP guy told me that they had electrofished a 26 inch largemouth bass at Ball Pond during the prior week. When I went there, one of the conservation officials for the pond told me that it had been only 23 inches long. Did you get its length? That might have been The One.
In any case, congrats and thanks for releasing it. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

Congrats on the enormous bass! Thanks for releasing it.
I was planning on checking out Kenosia today, but since the launch is flooded I'm going to try to find shore access at Sanfords Pond instead (Danbury, right on the CT/NY border at I-84.) The satellite image has me drooling all over my keyboard. Ball Pond is out of my way but at least I finally learned where New Fairfield is - an hour from Hartford, nowhere near "old" Fairfield.
BTW, that color is awesome...my watermelon magic superflukes can keep me thoroughly entertained even when I'm not fishing. _________________ Kira

wow great fish even better is that you let your son pull it in!!! the good karma you got from that will will surely put another big one on your line so never say never and thanks for letting it go _________________ The old admonition to "think like the fish" is merely an incentive to learn the whys and reasons of a fish's normal behavior in order to be more successful in catching them" William K.
