Hey everyone, I am just returning to this site after a year long absence.
I was just wondering if anyone out there knows of any good small ponds out there for bass.

I plan on hitting the back waters hard this season with my little rowboat and will be going by rumors, tall tales, and hunches to guide me to some sweet, little known spots to hit for some good bass action.

I have already started these past couple weeks but have had little luck. I hit a small LMB on Community Lake in Wallingford on my lunch break yesterday, and a couple more small ones on a golf coarse pond around the corner from community lake. I have yet to find any good action on these types of waters but have lots of ambition to find them.

I understand that most people won't be willing to give away their secret spots and I don't blame them.I will however be more than willing to share my own findings with others who are helpful, as I remember there are many on this site who are.

Also interested to see any discusion this might stir up. I may not have been logged in for a while but I never stopped reading the posts in this wonderful Bass section.

Wallingford? On 03/19, asianfisher (aka Billy) posted the following report from North Farms Reservoir by The Crappie King (aka his Uncle Johnny):
Quote:
Just a report from crappie king. 30 bass and over 40 crappie. Glad to know sunfish are the only fish kill. Will be going back very soon.

Billy told me that Johnny was fishing from the west shore, near the rock in the shallows where all of the turtles always hang out during the Summer. Johnny was probably targeting the crappies with a crappie rig (i.e., a small jig underneath a bobber set at the right depth). I know that he likes to use "fire and ice" type jigs:

the weather has been making bass action tough. Once we get a few warm days the action will pick up. Keep at it. Try jerk baits, hudini shad fished very very slow, senkos, keitechs paddle tail grubs and 3" grubs with a jig head and other soft plastic baits. Once the water heats up some look for pre spawn bass crusing the shoreline. Shakey head baits are great for catching bass looking for or on their beds.

If you are hitting small ponds, just make sure they are legal to fish Laughing

Yesterday, I had some luck with a wacky-rigged Senko and a Texas-rigged Sweet Beaver (i.e., soft plastic crawfish), both dragged over the bottom and through the weeds. The bite is definitely starting to pick up.

Thanks for the tips guys!
I have been researching Northfarm in my CT lakes & ponds book and am planning to go on my lunch break today, despite the crappy weather.

I also apreciate the tips on bait. I have been using many soft plastic rigs for the last couple years (initially recomended by guys from this site) an especially the wacky senco, and the texas rigged brush hog with a 1/8 oz bullet weight. I do need to break from these habits and develope a more diverse arsenal of techniques though. I own all the lures I've read about, but am so far only effective with a handfull of em.

As I mentioned, I will keep you guys informed of my findings in my hunt for backwater bass goldmines.

Thanks again
