Just a short iPhone report to say that there's only a tiny bit of ice left in the southeast corner of the upper (i.e., south) pond and none at all in the lower (i.e., north) pond. I pedaled the upper pond for a couple of hours after jonnyfly00 (aka Jon) sent me a text saying that he spotted a bunch of large trout in the shallows. I've fished Nod Brook for a couple of years, but had never seen one there. When the Farmington River floods, it connects with the lower pond, so it makes sense that they'd be in there and today, for the first time, I saw one there for myself. I had only a big perch Rapala and a big rainbow trout River2Sea swimbait tied on, and didn't get a nibble, but I spent most of my time just pedaling around the pond in The Other Woman. Man, that felt good! My fish finder marked only one fish at 8-1/2 feet in 10 feet of water on the east shore. But I'll be back again soon to search the shallows. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |
