First Kayak trip of the season. Took a half day on Friday not to much to report, one hit, about 7 miles of paddeling, 35 mph winds from the west. A lot of paddeling for first trip. Can't wait to do it again.

Hey, Tim! Did you get a new seat or is your back killing you, today?

atkins - Did you try throwing any small jigs, grubs or crankbaits for white perch or black crappie?

Dad and I fished Hamburg Cove on Sunday from around 11-2. We wanted to try out the new trolling motor and look for white perch. I caught 4 white perch and 1 yellow perch at the start, then in the last 45 mins I caught 15 white perch. All on a small white grub. The bite was vicious at the end and all the other boats and kayaks had gone already. Atkins - were you the guy my dad gave the nightcrawlers to or the guy from Manchester?

BassRican - Thanks for the tip. I'm hoping to get out to Hamburg Cove, soon, and although I prefer to catch largemouth or smallmouth bass, I'd love to catch some white perch. A striper would be nice, too. . . . Very Happy

PECo - no problem, glad to share. Let us know if you go out there.

atkins - I found your post to be too coincidental for it not to be the guy I talked to at the ramp. I appreciate the info you shared with me. I hope to get back to the Cove in a couple weeks. Hopefully the weather will improve and the stripers will be in there.

Hi All!

Fished the cove religously (+ 8 mile river) when I lived in East Hampton.

I'm a bit surprised that the river run White Perch are already in there because the water temp. is still quite cold.

Could be though that the spring run-off has triggered their earlier arrival.

What was the size of the WP you where catching Question

I found that they do seem to school or stack-up according to size.

There were 3 jon boats, 2 larger boats, and 2 kayaks all fishing for white perch. The white perch we caught were from 9 to 13 inches. The yellow perch was like 14. I threw back a couple shorts. We saw a couple of schools under us as we were cruising, of course we spooked them. Hopefully the fishing improves as the weather does. The guy at River's End Tackle said that the commercial fishermen have aided in the white perch reduction.
