To celebrate the first day of Spring, jonnyfly00 (aka Jon), his girlfriend Kaitlin and I fished Spring Pond. When we got on the water at 12:45 pm, it was sunny outside and the air temperature was in the low 40s, but there was very little wind. The water level in the pond is about four feet higher than it is during the Summer. I pedaled The Other Woman, while Jon paddled Rufus and Kaitlin paddled El Habañero. I was determined to stay away from the wacky Senko, so I had a perch Rapala stickbait and a River2Sea Bottom Walker swimbait tied onto my two rods:
However, after an hour of NOTHING, I caved in and tied on an octopus circle hook with a wacky five inch green pumpkin/red flake Senko. We covered the entire pond and couldn't find the fish. My fish finder didn't mark a single fish all day. However, at 3:15 pm, I spotted several carp in what are normally shallows to the north and west of the north island. After I told Jon that I had finally spotted some fish and he paddled over, I felt a tick on my Senko. I said to Jon, "I wonder whether I almost caught a snag or actually got a nibble." When I started reeling in the line, it started pulling back and I landed a healthy looking 13 inch largemouth bass. While it was a solid little fish, I'm pretty sure that it was male because it wasn't very chunky. I hope that Jon got a photo of it. Cots6 (aka Mason) showed up right when I caught the bass. Although he recently picked up a new kayak, he neglected to get a PFD, so he was fishing from the shore:

Yes, a PFD is required for each person aboard a canoe, kayak or any vessel less than 16 feet in length:

I didn't see anything in the regulations that states a whistle or other audible signaling device is required. And by "required", Stephen, I mean under the regulations, not according to common sense! _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter!
All states boating rules and regs. mirror the "International/Inland Rules of the Road" and all PFD's MUST meet or exceed USCG PFD requirements.
This is under "Maritime Law" and the "Rules of the Road".
It is "MANDATORY " to have a sound appliance! PERIOD
All maritime nations around the world are signatures to the IMO and "MUST" comply with ALL of the Rules of the Road -> NO EXCEPTIONS WHAT SO EVER FOR NATIONS OR STATES , and all US states MUST be in FULL compliance with ALL USCG rules and regs. (ie; Under US CODE )
And I'll add my own comment here -> If you don't ...YOUR A COMPLETE FOOL/IDIOT........ pick your own choice of word

Although I didn't find a reference to whistles or other audible signaling devices in the Connecticut boating regulations, I found this in the 2011 Connecticut Boater's Guide:

So, yes, a whistle or other audible signaling device is required by law.

Two things:
Regarding PFDs, I never said that a PFD isn't required. If you read my post more carefully, you'd see that I said:

And regarding whistles or other audible signaling devices, I merely said that there's nothing in the Connecticut boating regulations about them. Which is, strangely enough, true. I'm "100% RIGHT" about that. However, since it seemed weird to me that a whistle or other audible signaling device wasn't even mentioned, I kept looking.
I thought that we weren't going to SHOUT any more.

If you read my post you'll see that I said nothing about type PFD require aboard different vessels.
I said PFD's must meet or exceed USCG requirements! (Federal law)
Since ALL US states MUST comply with USCG rules and regs concerning boating activity in their state then they MUST be in compliance with USCG and Federal Maritime Law.
If the sound appliance requirement is missing in the Ct. boaters guide then it is a serious omission that should be corrected at the next printing because it is a requirement of Federal Law.
As for what you call Shouting ->...... Nah!..... I'm just emphasizing in capital letters pertinent words to get my point across!
If I do start to really shout I won't need the PC or phone -> I have a voice that carries and you "WILL" hear me quite distinctly all the way in Avon from Winsted
Oh! Just as an FIY to all -> Any boating incident that occurs on a body of water that 2 states share between them -> falls under the interstate clause (Federal Law) and said incident is officiated and investigated by the USCG (ie; example -> Beach Pond shared by Ct. and R.I.)

PS: Phil -> Your treading on Boating, Shipping, and Admiralty Law which is my area of expertise for over 35 + years.
All boating rules and regs. within the continental US is under US CODE with the exception of certain waters having unusual circumstances within a state that then can specifictly write laws only for that particular water.
(ie; Speed, Wash, and Wake zones on state waters is an example where the state can write its own rules and regs.)
