Can I use something like an umbrella rig with 6-10 lures on each line as long as they are not baited

If this is the question I would say no. The lure is an artificial bait.

No, Dawg, an artificial lure is not a bait.
Quote:
BAIT Any animal or vegetable, or their parts, living or dead, used with a hook for the purpose of attracting and catching fish. Any fish legally acquired, except largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, chain pickerel, northern pike, trout, salmon, carp and goldfish may be used as bait.

This is also from the angler's guide...

Quote:
ICE FISHING Not more than six tip-ups, floats (bobbers), similar devices,
or hand-held jigs or any combination thereof not exceeding six in the
aggregate may be used at one time. Persons under sixteen years of age
may use not more than two devices. Not more than three baited hooks,
with or without attractors, or three ice flies, or three artificial lures, or
any combination thereof not exceeding three in the aggregate may be
used with each tip-up, float (bobber), or similar device or hand-held
jig. Devices must be personally attended. The name and address of the
user must be legibly stamped on or attached to all devices.

Not more than 3 artificial lures is also a requirement.

Although the official regulations pertaining to sport fishing in the inland district are published by the State of Connecticut, Judicial Branch, Commission on Official Legal Publications in the Connecticut Law Journal, here's a link to a copy that's published online by the CT DEP:

http://www.ct.gov/dep/lib/dep/regulations/26/26-112-21through48.pdf

Unless and until they're amended, them's the rules. Very Happy

And, Dawg, angling doesn't include ice fishing:
Quote:
"Angling" means fishing with hook and line which shall be personally attended, but shall not include ice fishing or snagging or snatching. Not more than two lines, with or without rods, may be used at one time. Each line may have any combination of hooks, flies or lures, among which not more than three hooks may be baited.

I think that it's fair to infer from the phrase, "among which not more than three hooks may be baited", that more than three hooks on a line is contemplated by the regulations.

This is the ice fishing section so that's what I thought we were referring to.

It still says not more than 3 artificial lures can be used.

I'm guessing that in any type of angling if you used more than 3 artificial lures on one line you would be getting a ticket. You may be able to fight it in court but you would still get a ticket I suspect. I agree the definition under angling is very ambiguous.

I think that this discussion would be more fun if we were seated around a table with a load of beverages. Very Happy

I wonder whether Gulp baits have any animal components in them or are purely artificial. If they're truly artificial, you could have an umbrella rig with Gulp baits on every hook.
