Went to Hatch Pond for the first time Sunday with my oldest son which was his first time ice fishing. The wind was almost unbearable as are equitment wanted to take a ride down the pond on the smooth ice. We tucked up in a sunny spot on shore out of the wind for a set-up camp. Drilled about 2 dozen holes with the ice at 20" thick ( thank goodness for power augers)! Had quite a few wind flags go figure and only 2 bumps on the med. shiners. Also tried pinheads and mealworms on othr tip-ups. I put the Aqua-View camera in the holes but did not see any fish as I usually do! I`m not complaining by no means because I love it outside whatever the weather but is it just this year with the early heavy snow storms that seemed to make fishing a real challenge! I`ve been going every weekend with little or no luck. What the heck am I doing wrong? Oh well I`ll be back out somewhere this weekend and weekends to follow. Fishin, Grillin, and givin it hell!!!

At least you got out there and tried. IME the smaller ponds are a lot tougher fishing this winter than the bigger ones. Especially if they are shallow. I'm not familiar with Hatch Pond though. |
